I wish you hadn't told me that I was doing pretty good until you mentioned that game Mickey. Well now we are excited We're we're really you know excited about our football team and excited about our chances tomorrow night Although we know that we're playing a pretty good football team in the Pittsburgh Gladiators Lots of points obviously going to be scored your team's an offensive team Tim You were with Denver last year won the won the championship. What do you look in the players? You've brought to to the opener here tomorrow night. What do you look for out of this ball club? Well, you know, we have the Washington what is amounts to the the bulk of the Washington team last year And they were the number one offensive team in the league So quarterback rich end goal and receivers Dwayne Dixon Lenny Taylor Those guys played outstanding last year and you know, if we don't screw them up Well, maybe they can do that again this year Tell the folks Tim a little bit about you got some guys from the Detroit or the Michigan area on the club We really do we have two of the Michigan State former Michigan State players Jeff whisker who's played with the Michigan Panthers around and and In a young another young man who made all Big Ten Kelly Quinn who was a defensive lineman there We also have Jim Brown who was played high school football here in the local area brother Rice Went on to Boston College played with Doug Flutie and then let's not forget. No, Bobby. Oh bitch But we do feel like we've got a good local flavor of talent and we're just looking forward to tomorrow night very quickly Tim Tell the folks just a little bit about what an eight men and and go both ways actually offense defense We're eight on eight. We go both ways. We're mandated to play man coverage down the field So it you know it necessitates that we throw the football Almost every down our run plays are our trick plays I talk about George being the sixth man in the game of hockey the six skater out there You guys have got the boards in football to contend with exactly and I think that when you see those guys go into the boards I think the fans will be excited to me ticket sales for the game. They seem to be going very well They're going real well, but we still have some good seats left So we'd invite everybody to come out take a look if you like it come back if you don't, you know Hey, we'll we'll see you next year. Give me all the best tomorrow night. Thanks for visiting us. Good luck in the opener Thank you Mickey They call it football in your face tomorrow night the Detroit Drive opens a season of arena football here at Joe Lewis Arena right now The Red Wings lead 1-0 after one. We'll be back with more in just a moment Nice now the Red Wings leading by a score of 1-0 the Red Wings getting a couple of opportunities Early to dot capitalize on it. Then they play giveaway about halfway through that first period but the Blues could not capitalize finally at the 1722 mark a fine pass from cleanly in the corner back out to Norwood just inside the blue line Let's go in the wing score in the power play and it's 1-0 now for the second period action Let's move back upstairs Dave Strider and Mickey Redmond Thank you, Ray The team's indeed out on the ice and for the first minute 14 seconds of this second period Jacques de Mer's Club will be skating Shorthanded that's the time remaining in Sean Burr's penalty that was called at 1914 make while we have an opportunity The couple of get-well wishes that we'd like to pass along John Murphy In st. John's Hospital had a quadruple bypass operation and is recovering Well, we understand and Paul Adams 82 years old his granddaughter stopped by said He has not missed a Red Wing game since 1926. I don't know if that's true That's a heck of a streak of it is no that live. Well, I'm not sure With a little bit of a smile, but you know, it's not about Leading 1-0 and thinking ahead to Edmonton. I'll guarantee you that he knows the st. Louis team inside out and knows they will not quit And Detroit has to give them all they've got to finish things thing off As Ray mentioned Lee Norwood getting the only goal of that first period a power play goal Lima and Beach drew the assist And second period is underway Shorthanded that's the time remaining in Sean Burr's Club Leading 1-0 and thinking ahead to Edmonton. I'll guarantee you that he knows the st. Louis team inside out and knows they will not quit And second period is underway Chabot won the draw and DeLorme drives it down the ice And the Blues have to chase it back. Benning at one point on the power play And Jacques Martin going with four forward Got Brett Hall out on the right point with that fake shot and here's Hall with it right now sends it to Benning And to the corner now for Gilmore back off the boards for Benning he couldn't control it took his eye off it for a second Bit of a change up in the st. Louis power play user they'd use Gilmore back on the point And they put his line at center and used Brett Hall back there that one high up into the standing room which is three and four deep here tonight You know big big crowd just to get back quickly you're talking with coach Chip Markham in that first intermission I had an opportunity to go over to Cobo Arena today they had their media day and the guys in all their uniforms The Little Caesars blue and orange colors and the painted carpet. I'll tell you it's going to be quite a spectacle when this arena is Changed over and ahead of time I'm going to say a great job by the operations crew here Steve Piccioni vice president of operations John Pettit the new director here at the Joe Lewis Arena Boys are going to be working overtime to get this place ready those uniforms are good-looking Hey son plays it up the boards it's held in by Hall fakes the shot moved it to Hunter Hunter into the circle Sends it behind and a good play by Chase on to break that up Ashton able to poke it out taking a good job to come back Ashton with nothing else developing just dumps it in behind the st. Louis net five seconds left in the burr penalty Over a minute gone by here on the second period Hull trying to do it on his own in the corner bump by Zombo Raglan sends it to McKegney penalty the burr has expired burr with a hit there on Gilmore it sent up the boards Paul Cavallini holds it in winds up fires a shot deflected they score Raglan Herb Raglan got the redirection from Paul Cavallini at the point the wings were not able to regroup when burr get out of the box and there was nobody covering there's four red wings right there there's five of them you see there's nobody back on that right point and Cavallini's got all the time in the world to get it out of his feet tee it up and Herb Raglan redirected it underneath Stefan one one hockey game Chabot fired it around the boards and he had most of his teammates right next to him first playoff goal for Herb Raglan Paul Cavallini will draw the assistant at the one one hockey game what a hit by Delorme Ryan Sutter right up into the penalty box Norwood follows up to clear the zone it was brought back in by Sutter offside less than two minutes gone by second period but the Blues have come back to tie those game at one one there's the goal scorer Herb Raglan sporting that cut on the chin courtesy of a high stick from Harold Snips game three Paul Cavallini drawing the assistant one twenty nine of the second period special red wing alone day to super fan Mary Deloney recovering from open heart surgery Adam Oates looks it in wide of Millen now Zingra banging off the board the bar knocks it down oh nice play back to Zobo Zobo lets the shot go Millen save and he covers up a good quick passing by the red wings right there I was going to ask you about the fan that's since 1940 something you've seen every 1926 I'm wondering if that's the gentleman that sits down to the left of the press box here I see him every night quite a streak anyway well if he was brought to his first game when he was a couple of days old that would make him at least one well he's 82 we know that he's 82 yeah we know that Rick Zobo has been a steady performer for the wings throughout the season and in these playoffs he's back at the right point he's paired with Doug Hallward on defense as Adam Oates sets up for the base off across from Bernie Federico Oates won the draw Hallward lets the shot go it was blocked back in the corner Oates couldn't control it here's Zingra Zingra gave it away to Gallant out in front of Tantz here Oates fan to Gallant he was checked giveaway by the blues Wings couldn't capitalize Popwell plays it ahead Gino Cavallini trying to be careful with it he did just get it outside the zone here's Oates now across the line with Barr to Gallant Gallant couldn't quite slide it through the defense but the wings with some pressure on here and Alfred Urko chops at it but Zobo holds it in it goes back in deep Galan is back there Oates in the corner checked by Zingra now it's poked away from Dave Barr and it's recovered by Gino Cavallini for the blues ahead for Federico Bernie Federico across the line drop pass for Gino Cavallini it's knocked away here comes Krover with Oates in Galan Krover had it knocked away Oates picks it up and Paul Cavallini good defensive play Sutter plays it ahead rolls it in behind Wings go for the line change and here comes Bozek again number 26 the shadow Peter Klimas but right now it's the blues with the puck Roberts drops it back he missed Paul Cavallini Chabot gets there first for Detroit sends it in front for Krover to deflect it wide of the net Krover goes in after it beats Chabot along the board good play by Maher but a good play by Chabot to keep control now it goes to the corner Gordy Roberts plays it up the board Beach held it in it hits the referee Morrell here Chabot loose fakes the shot and it's poked away by Bozek now Krover sends it back to Beach back hands it to the corner Chabot for Krover he tries to feed it to the point Beach spanned on it it's recovered by Maher ahead now for Bozek Steve Bozek stood up by Caisson and the puck cleared center right Rob Whistle hops on it for the blues Caisson separates him from the puck Darren Beach sends it ahead center right Bob Krover trying to get control he has it across the line picked up by Chabot lets the shot go and Miller just got a piece of it center ice Beach looks it back in wide of the St. Louis net Chabot going in after Rob Whistle Whistle moves it out of Benning Benning avoided nil here's Zamboli pass for Clema just out of his reach and icing is called here 15-18 remaining in the second period 1-1 our score it took European engineering to start it along with our little Caesar player of tomorrow and coach's commentary at the most number 21 for Detroit Tony Hercus number 18 for the blues on the space Micky mentioned no other action in the NHL tonight because the other Campbell Conference series is completed the Oilers and four straight over the Calgary Flames and the Oilers awaiting the winner of this series Zambos being pressured by McKinney it goes up the board held in at the line flipped back toward the net step and had it almost lost it as Hercus got the stick on it he did now here's Hercus with a steal again but Zambos gets it back plays it off the board Whistle holds it in blues getting some pressure now but it's blocked by Bridgman Whistle held it in Zambos bumps with McKinney now the loose puck taken by Hercus tried to throw it in front good play by Hallward did not get loose and Zambos starts it back for Detroit up the middle for Adam Oates got crossed up there going to be a penalty to nil too I'm not so sure about this call I don't think he hit anybody yeah he got a piece of Millen at least the left pad he was looked like he was going for the St. Louis skater back there Millen was out of the crease it's going to be a penalty Jimmy Nill 1-1 will be back Jimmy Nill interference is the call watch what happened now even when the goaltender is not in his crease you cannot interfere with him that from that angle and from the first time I think is a questionable call in the sense that Nill physically looked like he was trying to get at the player behind Greg Millen but Morrell made the call and that's all that counts Delorme drives it up the boards Gilmore able to hold it in power play for the Blues here 1-1 our score it's about six minutes gone by in the second period here's Gilmore in deep now for Federico back for Gilmore for the Blues their third power play they're 0-2 Gordy Roberts shovels it to Gilmore in deep for Federico behind Monette that's what they want now watch what happened here's the cat and mouse game now don't leave Gilmore you can't leave Gilmore loose and crotch slaps away Gilmore ended up getting a shot too the defenseman has a choice there he either goes after and chases Federico and leaves number nine open Gilmore and when you do boy sure enough it'll come right out you're left pass up the middle and Sambo didn't see bar he may have hit him with a breakaway pass and the guy can't kill you from behind the net Millen gave it away there to Ashton but the wings couldn't convert on that 40 seconds left of an ill penalty that should have been outside he did not take that puck all the way in he left it on the line there's Federico out to the point for Paul Cavalini into the corner Federico was tied up Stefan got a piece of that puck behind Monette they score! and then the tempers get short it was Chase on I think and Hunter at first it's 2-1 St. Louis no matter what happens now Stefan came out to try to cut it off on the short side and could not get back to the other side I think he may have gotten back and got a piece of it but it got by him as Federico stuffed it in it'll be a power play goal St. Louis and a 2-1 hockey game here's how it all took place the puck was all the way around now watch Stefan he chased it behind the net this is really what set it up he does get back to the short side but cannot recover quick enough to get over on the other side where Federico was just hiding in the shadows there you see it you know he did get over he got his foot on the goal post went between his legs and it banked off his right pad so that's the third one in the series that we've seen bank off Stefan's pad like that so Paul Cavallini gets his second assist of the hockey game Gilmore trying the other assist Federico's second goal of the playoff both have come on power play that's Federico's first goal in this series against Detroit 7-0-2 gone by second period and you go back to the three or four big saves that Millen made before this game was 10 minutes old and how big those saves are right now Maher sends it to Sutter he went offside his face off will go back in front of the blue bench Brian Sutter you mentioned Norwood the other night having a game face Brian Sutter always has that game face on with Darryl Sutter retiring there's now only five Sutter brothers in the NHL Darryl had all kinds of injury problems and he was assistant coaching for the Hawks most of this season Wiggs about two shots on goal of his period the Blues have had three Grobert with a shove on Gordy Roberts into the mill and he goes and that net pops off the mooring there's your Red Wing goal scorer Lee Norwood Blues lead it 2-1 12-44 to go second period you knew the St. Louis Blues they would come in here and play their hardest well they've been a good road team all year long mind you they have not beaten Detroit here this year no playoffs or regular season the wings only lost one game all year long the four games played here in the regular season wings 1-3 one game ended in a tie and of course the wings 2-0 here against the Blues in the playoff but goes in deep behind Steffen lost his footing as he was tied up with Hallward and here comes Darren Beach center ice backhands it in now wide of Millen Millen at the side of the net left up there Gordy Roberts plays it up the board Beach held it in back for Chabot knocked away from him Sutter rolls it back inside the Detroit line and Norwood gets it to Darren Beach Beach flies one in from center high off the glass Chabot knocks it down along the board whistle ties up Chabot it goes back to the point Norwood lets it go just over the net Roberts while the boards had it knocked away here's a lead pass now for Hercus he's away DeLore trying to catch up Tony Hercus backhands wow a jamming up along the boards and a whistle here from Denny Morrell as Hercus never could get himself around to get a forehand shot away but a dangerous score like Tony Hercus he got off a pretty good one with a backhand shot and Norwood that here's the St. Louis breakout it is there's DeLore that really forced him to go wide and stay on the backhand DeLore got the angle on him and he's got to go to the backhand shot he tried to get it up step and got the glove on it boy you don't want to let the Blues go up three to one because they'll go into that checking game if the wings get by the St. Louis Blues in this series we will have round three Campbell Conference Finals here on TV 50 against the Defending Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers it'll be a rematch of last year's Campbell Conference Finals it'll begin Tuesday night live from Edmonton Northlands Coliseum here on TV 50 but that's if the wing get by the Blues in this series they can end it tonight but a St. Louis victory means game six in St. Louis on Friday top of the point going to play with Galant right in his face Norwood was the one that took that shot here comes McKinney now for the Blues McKinney centering pass for Whistle here come the wings three on one lead pass for Galant he has far with him now and oh shoot it Galant for Barr no it didn't get through now a centering pass deflected away by Millen well the pass isn't there you've got to shoot it Mick you've got to shoot it too long it didn't have anywhere to go with it especially the way he's been shooting the puck right Millen plays it up the boards it'll be knocked down at the point by Hallward fires a shot blocked in front Sambo back hands it to the corner Galant is there helps it along for Dave Barr Barr sends it back to the point Sambo with a shot deflected Oates knocks it down sends it back to Hallward and behind Millen it goes Barr catches up to it in the corner sends it in front for Oates the puck and he's going to play he's going to fight like heck he doesn't like it at all but Galant was hooked from behind to the left of Millen to one St. Louis wings go on the power play back live at Joe Lewis Arena Tim Botwell off for interoper high-sticking I thought they called it interference got to stick up around Galant's shoulder halfway here for Detroit their one goal came on a man advantage in the first period they are one for two and they trail two to one approaching a halfway mark a period two the way Millen is playing tonight need to capitalize on every good chance they get Millen at the side of the net taking away by Beach Galant chases it down off the boards now for Norwood back into the corner for Probert now for Chabot the fourth more now comes to the line Beach fakes throws it across for Norwood he'll let it go Millen big save there he really is out challenging the shooters more hard knocked it away but not out of the zone it comes across the Chabot in front looking for Probert well he got smacked by Cavalini in a pretty good two-hander and he has a look at him got the number had a few words he'll catch you later pal you know we got a power play to worry about tie this game up John Chabot takes a look sends it wide looking for Clema the plays outside Clema's pass was blocked Cavalini gives him a shove Gordy Roberts rolls it back up the board Norwood pinches in deflects Chabot holds it in Chabot into the circle for Norwood wings spreading it out comes to Chabot at the line again back to Norwood no place to go with it out of the line takes it to the corner he was pretty good there Gordy Roberts knocks it away and is able to clear it center right 30 seconds left in the path well penalty Galant now sends it to Probert he's across the line Probert lets it go cheering why did the big fella ever pull the trigger here Norwood with the feet Galant just tips it up to Probert as he's on the move he goes wide on the defense pulled it towards him and let a snapshot go watch this boom right between the legs of Gordy Roberts and drilled it by Millen on the stick side just inside the post it was by him before he moved the big man with the good hands Bob Probert and he's been on a roll in these playoffs for sure Probert now with five goals and 15 points in this is 11th game second goal of this series against the Blues and this crowd is aroused but here comes the Blues right back Gilmore sets up Paul and he's banned on it there goes Annette again behind the play Cavalini and Hallward getting the assist on the goal yeah Hallward I guess I was trying to give it to Lee Norwood there's a little pull in the trigger Bing he sometimes when a shooter pulls the puck sideways like that it makes the goaltender move and opens him up a little bit Probert really got some lumber on it but almost it almost looks like he's going to pull it across his body go to his backhand right on a deep yeah right but he used the defenseman well and who said Probert could only fight I don't think too many people say that anymore not anymore that's for sure he has got an excellent set of hands for a big man well the patience and restraint that he showed and not retaliating against Paul Cavalini earlier in that power play paid off a year ago Probert might have gone right after Cavalini crowd reacting to Harold steps up there on the forward line with Sean Burr and Tim Hagan two to our score second period game five of the North Division finals Red Wings looking for a rematch with the Edmonton Oilers John Burr has stepped with a big hit on Mehar Mehar screaming at Morrell wanted to there was a jingra jingra yeah he wanted an interference I think called against the San Diego's team but the whole jingra looking around like what a man I just got bowled over no penalty will break it two to life is full of decisions jocks that is J a speak to you coaching styles very similar teams very similar and a tug of war right now at two to seven forty seven face off to the left of Millen Bridgman it's an airplane isn't it seven forty seven on the clock Bridgman with a hit on Hunter Neil gets in there throws his body to the crowd Ashton bowled over by you and his first shift in the game it is the first shift for number twenty one Todd you and center ice now Hallward had it and lost it here comes Hunter Mark Hunter into the corner now behind Lynette Oh you and with a punch it sound bow now for dirt go check by Neil the puck came loose their first behind Lynette couldn't get it out in front step and poke it away but you and knocked it down with a stick now it's swept off the stick of you and Bridgman bangs it up the board and it's out center right here's Ashton now with Neil two blues are back Ashton across the line the pass across is Paul Cavalini who Neil goes down Morrell goes down in the here from the twenty thousand shot Ashton held in front penalty coming up against St. Louis as they touch it the crowd goes wild we'll be back after this I took my family to California on vacation hiding their holdings of the Red Wings who just struck for a power play goal the timeless game get another opportunity at thirteen fourteen and here's why watch Ashton there Paul Cavalini with a hold of his stick yeah that puck just laid right loose it came through a pile of players he hit but they hit him and if Paul Cavalini doesn't have Ashton tied up he gets that stick on the puck and maybe makes it three to Oates won the draw cleanly here's Norwood his shot was blocked into the corner Oates has up there Oates takes a look in front he's going to get back to that point Norwood moves it quickly back to Oates now it comes to be what's the shot go bill and the save it's right into him as Probert was dumped by Gordy Roberts Probert's in front of the net of course we're talking in the dressing room about an hour before the game and trying to get some weights and Probert looked at me and said how much do you think I weigh maybe one ninety five to two hundred and thirteen pounds six foot three and he gets in front of that net not only does he screen out the goaltender and it'd be in a position to get deflections and redirections but he ties up a lot of times a couple of the blue defensemen who are playing paying rather attention to him and ignoring the players out there Norwood fakes the shot moves it to Beach he'll let it go oh stopped in front and the Blues had Probert tied up comes outside the line Probert waits now gains the zone little flip pass for Galant Galant along the board it goes to the corner Probert has it there knocks out of the air by Mahar Beach holds it in sends it across for Norwood fakes the shot back for Beach Beach moves it to Adam Oates deep for Galant tried to stuff it in front it was blocked to the far corner Galant cases it down there off the boards it goes for Norwood fakes the shot go deflected wide Beach pokes it to the corner Gordy Roberts is there Probert comes over comes loose to Beach sends it towards the net Probert poking at it and it comes out to Beach forty five seconds still remaining in this man advantage two to our score wings pressing to regain the lead Oates can walk in Oates a shot blocked across the zone Beach has it again into the corner for Probert Probert gets it off the board drops it back for Oates Norwood sneaking in Oates in front what a step Millen just made did he ever save in the hockey game Mahar shot is blocked he gets it back and sent it in wide a step in what a save great play by Oates and point blank to Galant Greg Miller Norwood ahead now for Barr just five seconds left in the ball Cavalini penalty here's a pass comes to Chabot out to Hallward lets it go and he fired it wide Paul Cavalini is out blues at full strength still with possession Chabot behind the net gets it in front it comes to Sapo quick shot blues just looking to clear the puck no icing here what a game Greg Miller is playing he has been perfect in that net in the sense of being in the right place most of the time when the wings have shot it at him wings now with an eighteen to nine shot advantage but two to our score that's the staff that counts would have been icing but Steppen playing it as Hercus was in on him Chabot couldn't get it around Hercus two to our score Chabot takes it over ahead for and he was just offside trying to get away from Bozek check again four oh two to go second period two to our score he's the man of the game standing tall in the nets number twenty nine Greg Miller and here's why Norwood and Galant right there Galant gets the shot up and hit Millen the top of that right pad he was actually right in the crease when he let that shot go very good possession for the Red Wings though on that power well the Bears changing things up here he has Clema now out there with Beran Higgins to get Clema away from Bozek Doug Gilmore slaps it back behind Millen Fathwell ahead for Gino Cavallini now for Gilmore and Bozek out on the ice to replace Hull so these two coaches maybe not matching line for line but Doc Martan wants Bozek out there to shadow Peter Clema Norwood flips it ahead that playoff side of the puck was deflected before it came into the St. Louis zone music music Operators are standing by right now at Joe Lewis Arena to take your order for the new highlight video right here the first first place finish for the Red Wings in 23 years Steve Iserman's 50 goal season Grover and Iserman at the All-Star Game plus interviews with Jacques De Maers and the players 567-7500 specified VHS or Beta you can use your Visa or Discover card only 2495 call right now 567-7500 Fathwell blocked it at the St. Louis line Kaysan bounces it ahead it's taken by Clema flips it in wide of Millen Millen leaves it for Brett Hall he gave it away to Higgins comes out to Beach, Beach sends it back rim of the circle for Burr lets a shot go, Millen deflected it wide and it comes to Gino Cavallini ahead now for Gilmore Doug Gilmore across the line lost his footing there gets back up now he's dumped again by Beach cross check from the back by Beach and he'll go straight up left in the period second time around got the stick in the middle of Gilmore's back knocked him down and Jenny Morrell will call a cross check Jacques De Maers just throwing two hands in the direction of Morrell you gotta be kidding me I watch Gilmore now he's going down I watch he'll start to get back up he does get the nudge on him but he never got back up and that's probably why the call was made well the Blues have their fourth power play their second of this period they scored a power play goal earlier in this period that was the one by Fedorko from behind Lynette getting around to step in between Steffen's pad Roberts drives it in behind Steffen up the board Ashton kicked it loose Norwood couldn't clear the zone but Keagney's pass was blocked by Chabot now Hercus along the board sends it back to the line Zingra lets the shot go Steffen the save loose puck Hunter but Steffen was there and he just did get the pads together and the play off side as it hit the linesman he knocks and bounce back into the zone off side he's got his hands on his knees now he's hurting right now he's on the side with that thing the linesman and referee do wear some padding they have elbow pads they have almost like a set of sliding pads that you'd wear for baseball and kidney protectors it's like the inside of a set of players pants right now a break let's go down to Ray Lane well we just want to talk about our guests it'll be showing up at the end of the second period if you're talking about earlier he certainly has a lot of assists so far in the playoffs plus a couple of goals maybe he'll get hot in that third period so John Chabot visiting with Ray Lane between periods two and three as the wing's able to clear here 2.20 left in the second period a minute 20 left at the beach penalty 2 to our score Hercus gets it across the line around the Detroit zone Hunter couldn't handle the puck and Norwood able to sweep it all the way down the ice boy Norwood and DeLorme have seen a lot of ice time tonight there comes Hercus again sends it behind Steffen DeLorme he's it up drives it up that glass and Roberts couldn't hold it in Steffen teed that up perfectly for DeLorme played it there number 29 just drilled it down the ice DeLorme will drive it off the short glass and it gets by Gordy Roberts all the way down the ice and we're down to a half a minute remaining in the beach penalty minute and a half left in the second period Gilmore for the blues straight up the center of the ice carries across the Detroit line the playoff side with that stick between the legs Gilmore talking to his winger he's the one that's got to make the move he took it put it right on the line and Dred Hull saying you know get it over the line don't delay it I know you're a good hockey player but don't give me heck for going outside when you delay it on the blue line take it all the way in you always take the winger side of it I mean is there any other side especially if he's a right winger you have to good one the other night to get to in a minute Dred Hull checked by Chase on nil backhanded it didn't get it out of the zone Chase on battling with Hull plays it up the glass somehow found an opening there and that'll about do it for the beach penalty he'll be out in a couple of seconds and one minute remaining now in the second period Beech is out of the box Benning for the blues leading a rush across the line the call was made Gilmore sitting there ahead of the play Tempers getting short again the story we're going to get to Dave was the other night in St. Louis when Harold Snipes played left wing talked about it after the game and he said you know doesn't take a whole lot to play the wing of course wingers and defensemen always forwards and defensemen always going back and forth trying to put each other down and Snipes said yeah I said I got finished playing wing and the jock put me back on defense put my brain back in and go back and play defense the forwards of course are looking at them like hey man who are you kidding Snipes he was quite the sense of humor that man right there Gilmore hasn't got a sense of humor the way the wings have been tying him up in this series Gilmore and Hull still discussing that power play opportunity that went awry 54 seconds remaining in our second period the blues still a very intent group they know if they can just get by this one they'll have that big crowd at the St. Louis Arena behind them on Friday night alarm sends it for Barr it's tipped out center right play by Oates right there being hooked by Sutter Oates did get it across the line Alomar back hands it ahead Herb Ragland lead pass does not connect with Sutter they wave off the icing stepping out of the net plays it up the board that's knocked down centering pass picked off by Oates here come the wings four on three for the moment little drop pass now for Norwood Norwood going wide on Paul Cavalini sent it right in front it was locked by Millen and back come the blues what happened the net off the magnet fell on the net he's all tied up in the net fell forward with the net in the back of Greg Millen down to 16 seconds left in the second period Lee Norwood who has one of the two goals he's talking about the way that the blues were roughing up or rather the wings were roughing up Gilmore there's the guy that's done a lot of it the Indians are beginning their second season and their first obstacle is the Washington Bullets led by Moses Malone they've got the home court advantage and if you don't have a ticket for game two don't worry because we'll have all the action for you right here George Baja will describe all the NBA playoff action Saturday night at 8 on your place for sports TV 50 the face off back Malone after that net came off the morning Sambo drives it back in behind Millen up the board, tipped there, case on sends it back for Ashton behind the net tries to stuff it in front now here's Higgins with it out in front it was blocked, loose for just a moment and now the buzzer will sound to end the second period as the wings come very close to regaining that one goal lead they had at the end of one it was one nothing after one but thanks largely to that man very much anybody's hockey game the Blues got two in the second the Wings got one so at the end of two in game five of the North Division Finals we're tied at two stay with us in the second intermission we'll kick it off with Ray Lane talking with number 16 for the Red Wings, John Chabot Red Wing playoff hockey brought to you by One Guards Michigan's largest outdoor power equipment dealer 2-2 the score after two periods of play the Red Wings led one nothing after the first period of play then the Blues come back and get a pair and all of a sudden it's Probert tying up the game to make it 2-2 our special guest between the second and third period John Chabot John you have a streak going into this game I know you're looking for the win of course but six assists in the four outings not too shabby it's gone pretty well for me for the line of the hole really we've all been playing quite well and taking the play to the team we haven't spent that much time in our own zone and if you can do that you're going to get a lot of chances offensively and I can credit my line mates for a lot of the success that I've had because they've worked real hard and they've given me the puck and they've put it in the net I've just been passing it off you're being very humble about that I'll tell you that you've had a couple of bonafide chances and you're talking about the second period maybe two real opportunities so far in this game as far as turning on the lights yeah I've had a couple of slappers the second period was a better one I walked in off the wing and cut a cross really and Proby gave it to him and I took a slap and went off his blocker and off the outside of the post so you know I just got to keep shooting the puck and they're really tying up Peter in fact they have a man following Peter all over the ice tonight so if anybody's going to score it's going to be Proby or I and Proby's got his goal now it's my turn to get mine he has been covered I mean like a blanket out there hasn't he? he's followed them all over even if we don't have the puck they're following them around so Peter is going to have to live with that right now in the playoffs he's a hot scorer he's the number one scorer in the league and maybe not against Edmonton but against St. Louis he's really been dangerous and next series is a different series we're going to have to play a real strong third and hope we get a goal and keep them off the board and we'll come out alright has the difference been Mellon and the net in this game so far? he has had a spectacular two periods so far he's made some big stops he's made a look good at times he's shot in his pads and he's made the kick save when it's already been stopped but we're going to score on him you know we're going to score we've scored a lot of goals on him in this series already and it's no doubt that we're going to score on him tonight some time or another time and it's just a matter of time no matter when we've just got to keep the fresh on I think their second goal really woke us up and it just made us want to go harder how about in this fifth game the Blues playing any differently than they did in the previous four? quite a bit differently and how? which way? they're playing a real defensive game they didn't really do that I don't think they respected our offense that much to tell you the truth but anyway I said we scored a lot of goals on them and coming here especially in Detroit they decided they're going to send one man in if one man and pick up our wingers and especially pick up Peter Klima and just let us take the game to them and try and jump on our chances and they've done that twice tonight and we've just got to bear it down and not give them any more chances and capitalize on our own okay well DeMiro's be saying that to start the third period to this team going after the Red Wings they won't have much to say we came out strong we finished strong in the last ten and we just got to continue that in the third round I don't know what he's going to say continue what you did in the last ten into the third period and I think we should be alright we should be pretty successful John good luck to you keep the streak alive thank you I'll try okay we'll have more before the third period after this brief time out music back live at Joe Louis Arena there's somebody that took a little bit of time to put a banner together and hoping for a Stanley Cup coming to Detroit we're back at Joe Louis Arena second intermission Dave Strader along with Mickey Redmond the Blues and the Red Wings are tied at two in game five well the North Division Finals Red Wings looking to wrap it up Mick we get quite a bit of fan mail and letters to the Joe Louis Arena regarding different things that happened during telecast and whatnot but somebody sent in a card today with a gift attached and obviously a Toronto Maple Leaf fan he sent it to us and said I want to send you this in regards to the way you guys called the Maple Leaf series do you want to hold this up? yeah right there now you can guess what that is without a doubt and it goes with a couple of whistles that obviously this Maple Leaf fan thought that you and I were trying to be referees he's a Maple Leaf fan the letter said he's an ex Cabbage Town guy and there's only one guy I know from Cabbage Town and that's a guy by the name of Art Reeves who once told me that he played on a team from Cabbage Town that skated so slow it looked like they were skating backwards Art we appreciate the gift and I hope you'll follow us throughout the Stanley Cup Finals with the Red Wings for the rest of the year but please don't call us referees we got 20,000 of them in this building and we're not two of them thanks again Art now it's time for our little Caesars player of tomorrow and coach's commentary with Jacques Demers Player of Tomorrow brought to you by
