However, Great Southern Railways are hoping to expand the GAN, which would make Adelaide a whistle stop on the journey from Alice Springs to Melbourne. We are interested in expanding services and we hope to announce very shortly the GAN into Melbourne and then on into Sydney. Great Southern Railways says the GAN extension was part of a bid to the federal government last year and hopes the service is running by the end of the year.
