The political future of Queensland Premier Sir Joe Bielke-Pederson is expected to be decided at a meeting of the National Party in the next few days.
This follows a day of dramatic developments during which the Premier's leadership was challenged and three ministers were sacked.
Sir Joe officially gained permission to sack the three ministers after visiting the Queensland Governor late this afternoon.
But political observers say the Premier is simply making a last desperate attempt to save his political career.
Earlier in the day two ministers announced they'd be challenging Sir Joe's leadership.
And now it seems his future will be decided at an emergency party meeting in the next few days.
It's believed the numbers are heavily stacked against Sir Joe and that he's likely to receive a hostile response from his previously loyal party followers.
Police in the south of Western Australia have spent most of the day hunting for an armed man who tried to abduct a woman in Boddington.
Police officers from towns throughout the south west have been called in to join the search.
It was just before noon when the 40 year old woman was set upon while walking to a friend's place.
Officers from Bunbury, Harvey and Perth were called in to help scour the area and while roads leading out of Boddington were blocked a police aircraft searched from above.
The woman's husband was taken to the police station to comfort his distressed wife.
Later the heavily sedated woman was whisked away by police.
The man police are hunting for is short, aged between 20 and 30 years with a star tattooed on his cheek.
He was driving a light blue early model Holden sedan bearing Victorian plaques.
A number of people narrowly escaped decapitation today in an accident in Bayswater.
Both were in a car which slammed into the back of a truck.
Confronted by this rescue workers feared the worst.
The truck came along with its container hit on the top of the bridge and of course it stopped quick and the car would have run underneath and he would have stopped quick and we were very lucky.
Another three or four inches and I think the driver would have lost his head for sure.
While police held back the traffic firemen worked frantically to free a couple trapped when their station wagon slid under the back of a truck.
The truck had wedged itself under the Watley Crescent rail bridge only moments before.
And while rescue workers battled on they faced the ever present danger of an explosion as petrol spewed from the car's ruptured fuel tank.
The truck driver and the female passenger were not seriously injured but the driver of the station wagon had to be cut from the wreckage with the jaws of life.
He is in a serious condition in hospital.
It took more than an hour for the police to clear the busy intersection.
