The new acting state police superintendent announced he's retiring just days after he took over that job. Pedro Perez, his name took the reins of the state police after the superintendent, Harry Corbett, suddenly announced he was retiring last week. All of this coming amid allegations state police are interfering or possibly interfering in a domestic violence investigation involving a top aide to Governor Patterson. In a letter to the governor, Perez says his decision to retire after 28 years has nothing to do with those allegations. Perez says the search for the new superintendent and the union's perception of him has led him to believe that continuing on as the acting superintendent may be an obstacle for the state police's progress. The leaders of both unions say they are looking for a fresh start for the state police when that new superintendent is eventually selected. Much more on the story coming up tonight at 10.
