That's running to plan. She's still circulating just outside of the top 10. Partnered by Bruce Stewart, a seasoned Bathurst campaigner. Ran here with Coleman Bond and Capris during the 80s. Ah, they found the wheel for the English Yuletown car. Heading back into the pits. Now just make sure you got it on for the restart. So they battled their way back. They had to come back into the pits. They're back in, yep, doing their pit stop at the moment. Wayne Douglas racing Commodore. Count of 22, currently listed as position number 32 on the race circuit. 11 Larry Perkins continues to lead. As they head, once again down Conrod Street. And with Trevor Ashby and Steve Reed, as we saw a few moments ago, dropping out of the race and out of the top 10. Their place in the 10 has now been taken by car number 12, the M-BOM Max 3 entry of the Bob Jones and Greg Crick. So they're another team that's been circulating very well all day. And it looks like at this stage anyway, it could pay dividends for them. 87 laps for the pen. This is still an awfully long way to go in this motor race. Car 12, Bobby Jones in 10th position, beautifully built car. Holden Racing Team Chevrolet engine. And running very strongly at this stage of the race. We saw earlier the pit stops by the two BMWs. And a couple of unkind words I thought may have been said by Tony about rev limiters on cars and cams. Alan Grice, you've got Bruce Keys with you. Might be able to answer that for us. I think Bruce certainly heard about the problems that were claimed to be occurring to the BMW cars because of the cams rev limiter. And he's pretty keen to refute that, so I'll ask Bruce. Well, we've been using these rev limiters for two years now, Alan. We haven't had one single failure in using them. They've been used for the Shell Touring Car Championship for two years, and we used them in the Commodores and the Vistula event last year, and also the Sierras. Interestingly enough, we know of the BMW problem, but it seems to be with the BMW component, their sensor pick-up on the flywheel and the chopper plate, and it's certainly not as far as we're aware with the cams rev limiter. Yeah, but it's not the actual limiter itself that's failing. Do you believe it's possible as having an effect on a component there? It could be that it's having an effect, but our electronics man that made them refutes that. He doesn't believe that that's the case. And there doesn't seem to be any electronic feedback at all to the limiter, or to the, sorry, from the limiter back to the chopper plate. I guess also your point about them being running that particular limiter for two years in the same sort of car should have shown up any problem then. Absolutely no problems in the Shell Touring Car Championship or in the Tourist 1000 last year. Yeah, mate, that's the latest on the limiters. I guess that's clear to me. Alan, do you have any theories on why the BMW might have retired, because we saw it coming into the pits with a lot of smoke billowing from the back of it. There's a lot of smoke billowing out of the back of it, and that normally, normally, it hasn't got anything to do with electronics. It can because it can make electronics, and make an engine run lean and cause oil to blow out. It doesn't look like that to me, to be quite frank. Thank you, Alan. The Golson, Golson and Golson, number 45, BMW 635. I am and Ray driving today, Tanya missing. It was going to be a rather unique day for the team with Dad, his son and the daughter. But Tanya was probably expecting a little too much to bring her to Mount Panorama. Ray Golson's got the best finishing record of any driver here at Mount Panorama. He's finished every race that he's started here. He's had, really, more problems today than they normally have. Normally, they're a trouble-free entry, but quite a few hassles today. There's Ticky Johnson with some spots of rain on the windscreen. I've just had a walk around the compound. It's drizzling lightly at the bottom of the mountain. Yeah, rain is hitting Mount Panorama as Dick heads up the hill once again. Michelle Falcon sounding strong. Certainly the fabulous telemetry readout which we've been getting all day shows it is. Well, Cole Higgins Motorsport came up with the telemetry and be able to patch it into our computers and to Cole Higgins Motorsport, all the boys. Our thanks and Dunlop's thanks because it is riveting stuff. It is riveting stuff. You can see every brake application, every gear change. It's back into second gear coming out of the cutting once again. Just feeding the power in. Keep in mind, there's rain coming out of the mountain. Now the track's going to start getting slippery. Just hovering around 6,500 revs, 150 kilometres an hour as he pushes up toward Castrol Curve. So Dick's really on the money despite being a little bit further back in the field than he'd like. There he is taking Karnam before the second of the GIO cars across the top. Through Mazda Corner and now to Skyline. Currently running seventh. Oh dear. Car 77, the Ellery Sierra in trouble. Retiring off to the side. He's off the ideal racing line which is considerate of him. But that'll add even more drama to the surface of this track. So back with Dick. Interesting to watch this tacho as the track gets wetter. And these boys stay out on dry tyres. It's going to be leaping and falling like the proverbial. So feeds in the power onto Conroy Straight. Taking it up to the rev limit at seven and a half. Bounces off again. 200 kilometres an hour. And this is where the cars really push hard against this aerodynamic package. They've got fifth gear, slowly logs its way up to fifth. Pulls it into sixth. And Dick Johnson giving us a great ride around Mount Panorama. Fabulous ride today, Dick. I'm waiting to get through Caldex Chase. I'd leave that for a second. Follow Dick outside, 17. As Mark remarked just a second ago, back up to seventh on the road. Order unchanged. And doing two 17s at this stage, Mike. So he's still well and truly on the pace. Yeah, he sure is. That is the leader. Larry Perkins is doing 16 and a halves. And so is Mark Scaife. Mark Scaife's doing a double stint at the car. So Richard Stinton stepped in. So Scaife's still logging around 16 and a half. So Perkins and Scaife are never taking it at this stage at the front of the field. Dick on each way up the mountain. Dick, can you read us? Yeah, I sure can, Mike. Well, seventh spot and a long way to go. And those storm clouds don't look the best. Yeah, you really know how to make a guy feel good, don't you? That's the positive part. Oh, God. You know, that's all we need to know about the repeater last year. Plus, there's a slower car. It just dumped a bunch of oil up there. Listen, I'd like to say hello to Tommy Smith, Mike. By all means, he's a good friend of ours. Well, we'll just tell him that we sort of kind of miss him a bit because his cheerful face around here hasn't been seen for a few days. And I just want him to get well pretty soon. I know that Dick's referring to Tommy Smith, the motorsport manager for Shell, who is recovering after an operation. Want to talk us around for a lap? You're not busy, are you? Come on. Nothing else to do, mate, are we? No, no, no. The viewers at home love this, and we've got all the telemetry coming out of Cole Higgins Motorsport. Well, this is the Wayne Gardner corner. OK, we're up to third gear, into fourth. Into fifth for the run down Conrod. It's a long way, the old thing. She takes a bit to wind up in fifth, into sixth. And just have a look at these slow cars, won't they? They have been, in general, not too bad. Some of them are OK, and some of them aren't. Through the chase, second gear, up to third. Into fourth, down to 150 metres on the brakes. Straight back to second. Into pit straight. Have a quick check of the lap board for the worst time I've seen all day. Back to second for Elkhorn to go mountain straight. Into third, the Alcieri, it's a really boogie up here. The Falcon makes up most of his time across the top of the mountain. We only get as far as fifth. Straight back to third for the right hander through Ripco. Sorry about your camera. Straight back to second for the cutting. Out to the wall, over the hump. Up to third, round under the hill, the Turi's Bridge. The best part of the race track. The fans love you up there, son. Yeah, well, we'll give them a bit of a wave, you know. This is where the oil is. It's like a butcher's block. Dick, thanks a million for that on behalf of all our viewers. No worry, Mike. Catch you a bit later, son. Thanks, Mel. Larry Perkins, car number 11, continues to lead. Second spot held by the Skate Richards car. They've still to complete that lap, so they're not one lap up. Gardner and Jones run in third. Zerra and Percy in fourth spot, and Brabham and Olypson are in fifth. In sixth spot, Seaton and Jones still clawing their way back. Vicki Johnson and John Bauer run seventh. In car number 17, Troy Dunstan, Steve Harrington run in eighth. Ninth is Brabham and Parsons, and the Peter Jackson Falcon tenth. It's the Jones and Crick Ampolmax 3 Commodore. It's all tightening up at the front. Don't go away. Bampus, the great race of 1993. Courtesy of Greg Crick, Honda and Suzuki. And Cascade Fruit Juicers. See Ardens for air compressors, pressure pots and spray guns. Ardens AutoPaints. They're the spray painting specialists. 92 laps have been completed for the race leaders. In the two is 1,000. 92 out of 161. Race time, 3 hours 35 minutes coming up that way. Very shortly. It's 92 laps for the leaders, but 77, 78 laps for this car. The leader in the two-lead category at the present time and in 24th position outright. John Cotter and Peter Duhlmann. Peter Duhlmann at the wheel. At the present time, the defending champions in this category from last year. The car has had a lot of wear and tear, I think, in all toll, in their hands and those of others. It's been, to Mount Panorama now, seven straight years. Slightly second-hand, but still first in class at this stage of the race. You can't do much better than that. Peter Duhlmann did so well in the Shell Australia Touring Car Championship this year. Winning the two-lead segment of that, it went right down to the last race with the Caltech Toyota Corolla team. And he campaigned just about every round of the championship right across Australia. And tremendous to see him having a good run here in class today. The victory is not assured for him because it's a very close go between him and car number six, the second Caltechs entry with John Smith at the wheel of that with Neil Bates. And they've been swapping positions, in fact, ever since Colin Bond retired with the big oil losses we saw in the pits some 40 minutes ago. So Peter Duhlmann, John Cotter running strongly. Very nicely turned out car. They almost didn't come to Bathurst, you know. It was only in the last couple of weeks they decided to get here. They had what they thought was a substantial sponsorship deal lined up, it fell through. And then a number of their minor sponsors clubbed together, put in some money. The BMW Club of Australia passed the hat round, raised some money as well to get them here. So they came on a shoestring. They bought two cars, a test car and this one. And they're out there and well, they could walk off with the two-lead trophy again. He's doing a great job. These cars are quite elderly when you think about how old they are. Let's look at the Caltechs race score. Oh, they've lost the lead too. Yeah, Smith and Bates and the Caltechs team, Corolla Seeker in the lead now. Cotter and Duhlmann in second. Rodgers and Hopwood in third position. In fourth, Steve Masterson and Hills, a little Sierra. And in fifth, car 79, Conway and Gardner in one little Toyota Corolla. So you can see the gaps there. Eight laps. As you can see between the fifth runner and the... He's losing fluid from the tail of the car, the right hand side rear. Fuel. So he comes across the top as we join the Oscar Champ of Australia, triple champion, carrying our DuPont CarPaints race cam and that's young Bradley Jones. How goes it, Bradley? Gee, that thing's noisy you're driving. Oh, it's not too bad. How's it going for you, Brad? You've been playing around with tyres throughout the day. Well, we had a bit of a hiccup in some of the early stints and now what we've done is tried a harder compound and it seems to work more further but unfortunately we lost a bit of pace so we're just trying to make it up. Brad, you're only getting 20 laps out of those softer tyres. How much further do you expect to go on this tougher compound? Well, you know, we've set our bet now. We have to lane it. We're just doing the stops as we have to, Ducky. It's not so much that we go further. It's much more we've been driving faster. There's a few spots of rain on the lenses and the cameras. Not a thick in the track that we can see. Is it bothering you, the wet weather? Yeah, shit happens. Thank you, Bradley. Goodbye. Hanging up now. Cut his telecom mobile net off. So at the moment the number two car was running fifth. It's in for a pit stop. And let's go down to Richie Hay. Thank you, Mike. Well, that is Olifson just jumping back into the car. Keep in mind the fact that when we talk about brake powered stops for Larry Perkins and perhaps one or two others, this team has already done their brake powered stop. They don't plan another one. So providing everything goes to schedule, stops should take no longer than around 30 seconds. They're working on the screen which they had a problem with earlier on. They can make an extra stop to clean the screen. Back into the race goes the car with no apparent problems. As behind me comes Larry Perkins. This will be an interesting stop, Richie. There's not much commentary along the pit straight. Let me tell you, we won't talk. We'll just go to the crowd. Yes, you get the impression, don't you? It's going to be a popular victory here today in Mount Panorama. He's a popular boy. But Jimmy Richards is cutting into that lead by about three seconds a lap. Well, it's changing all the time. Last time he took three seconds off Larry and now it's back to 21 seconds. So obviously these guys are hitting bits and pieces of traffic at different times. And when they get a clear track, Larry is able to maintain the gap. So provided he doesn't get tangled up with a slower car in this closing three and a half laps, he should be able to make it home. The closest finish, by the way, in the history of the great race was in 1967 when Harry Firth and the Gagan brothers finished 11 seconds apart. So they won't quite be there, but it's close enough for us. I mentioned at the top of the show today, Harry Firth, who is always here at Mount Panorama for the twoies, 1000 is missing. Listen to that. I'll even be stronger here too. See what the whole fan don't forget this guy chipping away. One stage when the Sierra's with the dominant car to have, Larry was still the guy running the Commodore. The car was competitive at that stage. There's his wave guys, wave. Well done. And he stuck with the whole product through thick and thin. And hopefully all that hard work and certainly that loyalty is going to pay dividends today. And so it should, not only from the fans on the hill, but maybe from the general himself. Certainly. So Perkins heads off on his way down Conrod Street. Still got the wipers on, but Conrod still looks bone dry. There doesn't seem to be any rain on the track, on that section of the track all day. Strange conditions, aren't they, Doug? We've seen a lot of the cars with the mid-square wipers going. There's obviously a slight bit of mist and maybe a bit of drizzle, but it's not enough to put some dampers down on the dry line. So as long as these conditions continue and there's not some deluge, the track conditions should stay the same. Coming down to the end of Conrod Street. We're going to go through the routine again. And just ahead of it, the mobile Commodore of Peter Rock, I think John Clelland, with the wheel at the moment. And that's got a bit of damage to the spoiler. He's just warming the crowd up. Here comes Larry again along Pitt Strait. Three laps to go for Larry Perkins, Jimmy Richards in second place, and the Freddie Gibson Commodore, Wayne Gardner in third. The very interesting thing I've had pointed out to me, how significant two former motorcycle races are in the overall results of this race. Greg Hansford, former motorcycle star, has partnered Perkins in this car today and done a brilliant job. And in third position, our own world champ, Wayne Gardner. I was making the point earlier that most of these motorcycle champions that make the transition do it pretty effectively. Johnny Chicotto comes to mind. Of course, John Sertis, many years ago, a great motorcycle champion and a great motor car driver as well. Although there's a notable exception and Richard Hay, which wishes to point it out. I don't think Kenny Roberts enjoys driving cars too much. He meant to prefer two wheels. But Mike Haywood, of course, is another very successful motorcycle racer who went to cars. Here's Jimmy Richards. They were going for a hat trick. They still are, in fact, going for a hat trick here at Mount Panorama today. Two wins back to back with the high-tech Nissan GTR. New formula for season 93 at the sharp end of the field. The V8s of Ford, Holden and the two and a half litre BMW and two litres in their own race within a race. Well, there's still plenty of time here, two and a half laps to go. Although the split between them last time was 20 seconds, so the gap seems consistent. Oh, sure, yeah. It's just a matter of Larry bringing it home. Heading away with these slower cars. This is the guy I think that's done a wonderful job, carrying our DuPont Paints base cam. Wayne Gardner. There you go. And he looks as cool as he did at the start of proceedings here this morning. And I'd say this is going to do something really big for him in season 94. Does anyone have thought that Gardner was just a highly paid convert from motorcycling to touring cars? This guy's done it all today. I think he's hearing it. He just put the victory sign up there to the lens, unless of course he was being rude about it. I think that might have been a moving message, don't you? In the study of concentration. I'm interested to see where Wayne ends up next year. He's publicly announced he won't be driving for the factory team next year. Oh, I bet he's in a very strong team. And probably at the helm of that team too. Very strong sponsor, as I understand it. So Wayne heads up the mountain with Larry Perkins. Meantime comes a long pit straight with two to go. Two laps to go. Oh, and I think warming to this one. 12.4, something like that, 12.5 kilometres to run for the Castrol Commodore. Greg Hadsford, boy, you can feel that he's almost got it in his grasp. He's never been this close before. Imagine the angst, not only for Hadsford but for Larry Perkins behind the wheel of the number 11 car. He'll be hearing every noise, he'll be feeling every bump, he'll be heart in the mouth stuff all the remaining two laps. I think Alan Morsley who takes care of all of our race centre and brings us up to date throughout the broadcast with a bunch of willing helpers. He picked Greg Hadsford for his master team for the 12 hour. He was on a winner there and he's done an excellent job here today. They head up to his red turn. Lightning Larry ready to strike this afternoon. Just think of the experience this guy has for the crowd. Unbelievable. Think of the enormous experience this guy has accumulated for the two decades of motorsport. And all the way to Formula One as we said, they're one of the top touring car drivers. Calling on all that experience this afternoon. One of the great drives in Baptist history. Larry Perkins against the odds, against the bigger budget teams. Looking for victory in the twoies 1000. I wonder how much of his success today is to do with him being an engineer as well as a driver. A lot. Well Larry always points out that he believes it is a distinct advantage that he has such a close affinity with his machinery. He builds the car himself, he knows every nut and bolt and weld on the car. And he feels like it's an extension of his own body. And certainly in a race like this, 1000 kilometres to be that close to your machinery and understanding it so well. I guess the advantage he speaks about is a true fact. If something's wrong with the car, he doesn't have to try and explain it to anybody. He knows immediately it's a sit for pants slip. Not only that of course, he knows what does damage and what makes a car last through 1000 kilometres of racing. Don't forget his pedigree in Baptist history. Pretty good. Three wins on the trot with Peter Brock. When he joined the Marlborough Holt dealer team, I think it was 1982, he virtually took over the engineering of those cars. And boy, for three years of Baptist history, totally unbootable. Looking for the last lap board. The great race of 93 as they come across the strike. And yes it's there and the crowd go up. And the man, Perkins, takes it up to the left hander. Great hands but can't believe it. Nothing could be so cruel to Robby of this one or Larry for that matter. The gap is still constant. Back to Jimmy Richards in the number one with Phil Commodore. Back in third. Look at that, he's reduced it a bit. It's 13 seconds now. He's not going to make 13 up in one lap. But I tell you what, he has come storming back at him as Jimmy Richards. I suggest Larry's probably easing off a little busy. The insurance policy is being filled in. Richo's just put in a 2.19, Larry's done a 2.22. So, you know, motor racing a second is good enough to win a motor race. Larry's just got to get across the top and almost coast from there. BP cutting for the final time. Some slower cars for Larry to deal with as he hits the top of the mountain. To his red turn is the next one. Here he comes, a kick to the left. The crowd are already ready to welcome him. Don't say no. LP. Here he comes. LP on the gas. 2 Es, Top Gun. Season 93. It's a record crowd. It's a very local crowd. This is what they came here for. Slower car up ahead. Larry gives him plenty of space. I think you'll find that's John Clelland. John Clelland up in the 05 car ahead of him. Look at the marshals. Larry Perkins returns to the mountain. Last victory here in 1984. It's taken him nine years. He's a triple winner. He's got to add number four this afternoon. A long time between drinks for Larry Perkins. This will be a sweet one. Choice of tyres. We questioned his choice of tyres when he decided to go into the slicks when the rating was coming down quite heavily earlier. We wondered if it was a mistake. It certainly was the right choice. And he's going to reap the harvest. Well, he's putting a quick little sprint in here. Down towards Caldex Chase. Now through the gears. Couple of cars to deal with before the chicken play comes out. Yes, sir. Yes, he's done very well. He goes out of here. Bridgestone Bridge. The next landmark as he goes down here. And the throats of all the fans are starting. Perkins. Perkins. Perkins. And why not? One of the best victories. He's done it in the new VA formula. Larry Perkins wins. And to his 1000. Everyone. Greg Hansen. This is the happiest thing I think we've ever seen here. And he's the man that chases it. Gathered a lot of ground. That was one of the most absorbing battles you'll ever see for the lead. It was on from lap one. It went right through to 161. He got it down to 10 seconds. On the final lap, 10 seconds. Greg Hansen, would he be thrilled? He's been up here for a long, long time too. Jimmy Richards across the line for second place. Wayne Gardner. Our former world 500 champion gets up to finish in third. Greg gives his girlfriend a hug. It's been a long, hard haul. Wayne Gardner still out on the track. Approaching the start-finish line. The Perkins crowd absolutely ecstatic. There's happy scenes in the pits. And I think the crowd would be delighted here today with the trifecta. Greg Hansford. Boy. He put in a great try today. It's something Larry could have expected of him, as he always does with any team he drives. With this Larry picking his way through the back of the pits. Down toward Victory Lane. And for scrutineering where the cars are all impounded. So Larry and the Castrol Commodore. Takes the sweetest drive of his life down towards the Toohey Centre. He'll be followed in by Jimmy Richards in car number one. Coming in to finish in third is going to be Wayne Gardner who will also get a tremendous reception. Comes down on the inside of Laurie Donoher. First and second are already across the line. Now another Aussie icon. Wayne Gardner home for third. Fantastic result for Wayne. Look at the crowd. That's great. Yeah, thumbs up. Good on you, boy. Third place podium finishing his second Bappas. That's quite an achievement. A great champion and he's distinguished himself today. It looks like we've got Commodores. One, two, three, four, five. And the first non-Commodore is the EB Falcon number 35. Driven so well today by Jeff Brabham and David Parsons. Indeed. This is the man, listen to the crowd, Greg Hansford. Great drive in very difficult conditions. Reporters move in with their microphones to get the post-race stories. As he heads down toward the balcony. Look at that. He'll be happy to join Larry Perkins on the balcony shortly. Along with Mark Scaife and Jimmy Richards. Wayne Gardner and Brad Jones. They certainly deserve their spot today. And of course our two litre winner. Yep, great. Look at the crowd converging to his race centre. It looks like our two litre winner is the BMW. It looks like John Coulter's BMW, the M3. Frantic scenes down there. Look at them, like a swarm of ants. Peter Dillman, John Potter I believe are the two litre winners. We'll recap all that for you shortly. Look at that. They're all happy today. And then behind Larry. Are those positions official? Yes indeed. It is count number 20, the BMW. Well he's done it. I'm John Coulter. 52. What have I got? 52. Greg Hansford waiting for his entry up the stairs. Look at the fans running down. This will be one of the most popular victories in Bathurst history. That's extraordinary. Look at the size of that crowd. There'll be a lot of Houlton fans out there. And that is the point I guess. Larry's beaten the Sheppes. With the good old local Aussie VA. Well they'll be trying to make their way down from the mountain. They're coming all the way along Pitt Strait. The cars of course are all finished. There's the scene. There's not too many of left here let me tell you. They want to be around for the presentation. There's a lot of smoke out the back of the pits. As the cars limp back towards Scroogedowning. Let's recap them for you on our Caltex Race Score. Congratulations to Larry Perkins and Greg Hansford. Winners today are the Twoys 1000 in their Castrol Commodore. Placed in second a fine drive from Jimmy Richards and Mark Scaife in the Windfield Commodore. Third 16 Wayne Gardner and Brad Jones in the Telecom Mobile Net Commodore. Fourth place go to car number two David Brabham and Anders Olufsen the second of the Windfield cars. And five Splendor Performance 55 Troy Dunstan and Steve Harrington. Sixth spot 35 is of course Jeff Brabham and David Parsons and the Peter Jackson Falcon. Seventh goes to twelve Bob Jones and Greg Crick in the Ampole Commodore. Then car number eighteen finishes in eighth Paul Radicich and Cameron McConville for Shell Racing. Ninth spot going to twenty seven another privateer Terry Finnegan and Gary Rogers in the Foodtown Commodore. And ten thirty three Bob Pearson and Bruce Stewart in the Product Commodore. Back shortly. We've got a couple of other people to acknowledge though before we get that far. First of all the winners of the two leader category. In the little BMW they've done it for the second year running. Peter Duhlmann and John Connor. Guys. Peter you guys came here. Looked like you almost weren't going to get here. You came here with no money and you've won it again. Yeah well we worked hard and I guess we've done it. It's fabulous. We're pleased. John you had the early battles there with the two Caltex team cars but they seem to drop off about two thirds distance. Yeah it turned out to be BMW reliability that sort of saved the day for us. The two leader category winners for the second year running. Peter Duhlmann and John Connor. Larry will be here in a minute but first of all third place getter outright for Telecom Mobile Net Commodore and the Holden Racing team. Wayne Gardner and Brad Jones. Wayne does this make up for some of the disappointments of last year or does it not? Well last year was a good learning curve but to come back with a really good car and a good team and finish on the podium I'm very very happy for Brad and myself. It was a team effort and thanks to Telecom and the HRT team and Brad he drove a fantastic race. It's a great effort and thanks everybody for coming. It was just unreal. Thanks guys. I think they're wanting to do great running in the car on the last spin and we've been great racing in it. I'd just like to thank Telecom and Holden for giving us a great car and all you people for coming. Thank you. Third place out there for the great race for 1993. They've got a pretty rough reception here last year when they've won the race. They're back this year for Winfield in a Commodore. They've taken second money. Mark Skate and Jim Richards. Mark you gave it your best shot. There were some dicing choices that had to be made about tyres and just for one little slip it could have been yours way to finish. Well you know we both tried our bum off all day and to our team and Winfield, Yokohama, Holden, Qantas, all their efforts have been fantastic. The car is as good as we could make it and to get beat by 10 seconds over 161 laps is a great effort. Well done to Larry and Greg. Obviously their team has done a fantastic job. Jim. Jimmy you got any quotable quotes for us this year? No, none this year. I'd like just to thank all the people for coming. It looks like it's a great crowd. Congratulate Larry. Thank our sponsors Winfield, Yokohama, Qantas and thanks to Fred Gibson the boys and thanks to Mark. Jim I was just saying there were some really dodgy or not dodgy but delicate choices had to be made there about tyres. You elected to stay out on the hot slicks but you were bored undone up here at the top corner going up the mountain straight. I had a car spin in front of me and I had to avoid it which we had to do a U-turn and come back onto the track which lost me some time. Well it was a great effort to finish second under any circumstances and a day of very changeable fortune. Congratulations on a fantastic effort. Jim Richards and Mark Skates. Well a fantastic cheer for Samantha and Carrie the girls from Tewes bearing the garlands. And those garlands belong to the winners of the 1993 Tewes 1000. They're about to join us out here on the balcony right now. Larry Perkins and Greg Hensford. Larry! Larry! Larry! Larry! Larry you've won it three times before but I reckon this must be the sweetest victory of all. You've got Paul, you've got the race, you've done it all. Yeah, yeah we're delighted. I thank my team, Castrol, Dunlop and of course Greg Hensford. I couldn't have done it without him. Larry when the weather really looked like turning to mush out there you took a really big gamble and stayed out on slicks. You must have been in touch with the almighty. No I was very much in tune with my car. Absolute faith in the Dunlops, absolute faith in my machinery. Couldn't have been better and I'm that happy to win from the front. Absolutely ecstatic. Greg you were so nervous standing down there the last 15 laps or so I thought you were going to have a baby. My heart was on the rev limiter but I've never been to a race before where for a whole week there's nothing going wrong from the minute we arrived here. The whole thing went like clockwork up until now. I thank Larry very very much for having me with him. To all you fans out there who brave the weather I thank you from absolute maximum thanks. You're an absolute wonderful crowd and I thank you very much. It would not be the same unless you all got drenched in champagne. Well this must be about the most popular victory that I have ever seen here at Mount Carow Armour in all the years that I've been coming here. The victors for the great race of 1993, Larry Perkins and Greg Hensley. We'll be back in a few moments. Baddest. These people like motor racing just as much as you do. So settle back with a cool one and think of the sponsors who are bringing you the TUI's Top Ten. At Caltex we know the only way to get you back is to invite you back. There is an alternative route through the Forth Valley but I suggest you go into Sheffield and have a look through the murals in there. How's it all going mate? That's the shot. Everything under control? It's not starting properly in the mornings. Do you think it's a battery or something else? Well it could be. I'd like me to have a look at it one more time. It's the difference between a petrol station and a service station. Well thanks for calling in. Come again. See you on the way back.
