Hi, I'm Frederick Holder. I have an important message for teenagers and for parents of children with chicken pox or flu. There is a rare but serious childhood disease called Rye Syndrome that may develop in children and teenagers who have chicken pox or flu. Although the cause of Rye Syndrome is not known, aspirin has been reported to be associated with Rye Syndrome, so it is very important to consult a doctor before giving these medicines to children and teenagers with chicken pox or flu. Remember, Rye Syndrome occurs even in children and teenagers who take other medicines or no medicines. It's important to be aware of the early signs and symptoms. If a child or teenager shows unusual behavior such as severe tiredness, belligerence, or excessive vomiting after appearing to recover from chicken pox or flu, get medical help immediately. Give no medications.
