Good evening, I'm Tony Jones with a special news update.
We interrupt this program to bring you the first pictures of an extraordinary event in New York.
Two planes have crashed into both towers of the World Trade Center in Manhattan.
Details are sketchy but eyewitnesses say the planes, apparently passenger aircraft,
hit within minutes of each other between the 80th and 85th floors.
So far six people are confirmed dead and thousands have been injured.
The crashes happened around 9 a.m. New York time.
US officials say it appears to be an act of terrorism. We cross now to CNN's live coverage.
