Since the 17th century karate has developed from an ancient Japanese art of combat and defense into the modern day pastime that is now enjoyed by millions around the world. At one time the practice of karate was considered too dangerous to develop into a sport, but from around 1940 its exponents began to recognise a need to measure their skill and their progress, so they devised a system of pre-arranged sparring. The sport of karate as a sport had begun. Competition karate still underwent a lengthy series of changes before it became the dynamic and exciting spectacle that it is today. Competitors now fight for three minutes within the confines of an eight metre square matted area. The winner is decided by decisive strikes or on points at the end of the bout. Points are awarded when a recognised karate technique is successfully delivered to a legitimate target area on the opponent's body. Two points is awarded when both the technique and the delivery are perfect. Wasari, one point, is awarded when the attack is judged to be 90% effective. Naturally contact is vitally important, but penalties or even disqualification can result when excessive force is used. This doesn't mean that the opponents don't connect with each other, they do, but techniques to the head must be skin touch only and techniques to the body, though strong and powerful, must be controlled. This programme features 101 examples of the best karate strikes and is narrated by two great exponents of the sport, Vic Charles, a karate world champion, and Abdul Shah, the lightweight world champion. Our first strikes come from Kokushinkai Championships in Britain during 1988 and 89. We have Griffin Serin White, pressurised by his opponent, just missed with a kick there. He's attacking straight away though isn't he? Yeah. Oh, strike underneath the chin. Nose? No, it was a... no, definitely strike to the chin. Well, just the kick that just misses, and he brings his head down. He grabs the opponent, he grabs him here and then the damage is done now. Does it hit the nose? Yeah, it hits the nose. It's a knockout. Good knockout. There you go, just started now. I feel the need for the round. Yeah, that's good. Very good punch, very good punch. Watch, I think hitting the sole places. This last punch is the one that does the damage. Yeah, this is the one here, here it comes. And it's interesting, look, he just registered there, he just went straight down. Was an uppercut. Right, we have Yates in red, he's attacking straight away. He's putting all the pressure on, pushing his opponent back. Yeah, but the white belt's got to stand his ground and hold. Oh, to see. He should have been blocking then. The knee's coming up all the time. Oh, good knee. No, it's too late. He should have been blocking there, he really should have been blocking. You see again. This last technique he does is a really good knee lift, and that's what puts the kick in. No, the punch was first though, punch was first and then the kick. Watch his kick. Oh, again, no block, no blocking. Good, good strike. Elzerman in red, Boucher in white. Boucher looks very tired, tired, looks tired. It's a bit scrappy at the moment. Yeah, but what they're just doing, they're just weighing each other now. Oh, that's a good, was that a punch? How about the blue? Watch this, the punch comes right out of the blue. No, I thought that punch was too low. That punch was low. That's the one that dropped him, he's there. Perthol in red, Hansen in white, Hansen is pressurizing. Yeah, they're both looking quite even at the moment. You can see the red belt is trying to push him back though. Oh, brilliant spin kick. Now watch on this one, he really sets him up for this. Yeah, he's looking very confident, the white belt, and he spins around. Look at this, spinning out of my wash. And control as well, control kick. Oh, he's down. Excellent. Perthol in red, Skog in white. They've already started kicking already. A bit messy here. Oh, good crescent kick. Wonderful kick. See that again there? Yeah, he comes straight up without even any notice. He didn't see it then. He's happy with that one. Yeah, I just hope the red belt is going to recover well. He looks okay though. I think he'll be okay. Rod in red, trying to make impression on Srirachi. Yeah, Srirachi's got his work out here. Oh, wonderful kick to the thigh there. Top of the thigh there. It's gone down. You'll see this again, it's all close quarter. Yeah, but he's holding on to him. He's trying to hold on to him to push him out. Just push him away, yes. And there he comes, and then he whacks it in there. He's down. Gerrard's in red, Virgine in white. Yeah, it's just a bit of pushing, shoving at the moment. But... We're both looking for an opening. The red belt's really punching here, isn't he? It seems to be the stronger of the two. Yeah, I like to see the white belt do a different technique. Oh! Oh, too late. We see here, they're pushing him to the round, looking for an opening. Pull the body punches. You can see the red belt's much stronger though, yeah. Kick to the thigh. Clear target. Pickthall in red, Leonard in white. Oh, they're coming out just kicking here. This is going to be a good one. It hits his thigh there. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good one. Oh! Wonderful kick. All the attacks were below the belt here. Yeah, but they both come out very aggressive here. Big push. This goes down. The red belt's still punching though. Yeah. And a wonderful kick. Horden in red, Boyer in white. Yeah, just coming out, just feeling each other. Oh! Spinning kick. This is lovely. Oh, look at that. Hits with the heel. Well controlled as well. Palmer in red, Walz in white. Yeah, the red belt's pushing here. Oh! A knee kick. Oh! Good strike. And he just missed a kick. Two there. He watches, he pushes him back. Good punches here. The first knee kick comes there at the body. Another second. What's the kick? Just missed a knee kick. Just missed a kick. How will it attempt a somersault and kick? Yeah, and Thompson here in the white, who's the British favourite. Oh, good strike there. Oh, this is looking good, this. He's looked away. He's looked away and Thompson's strike to five. I don't know what happened here, but... For some unknown reason, he's looked away. Couple of whacks there at the thighs. Something makes Howlett look away. Which is, he's probably, if he looks away... Thompson takes it down. Thompson still get the point. White, brown, red, Mansfield in white. Yeah, I must say, Jeff looks the part here, having all his head cut off for this special occasion. Yeah, and he's pushing pressure on here. Takes it up. Oh! That was a knee strike, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, he attempts a low one. I mean, there's nothing happening now. And then the knee comes back up again. Watch his knee come back up again. Oh! And then the low kick there. Oh, that must have done some damage. There's the knee in the face. Oh, brilliant. Very good technique. McElroy in red, Thompson in white. Yeah, we've got to hope he's saying something special. Oh, wonderful technique. That was the knee. No, it doesn't matter. If you look again, Thompson's going to the technique. He tries to strike. Low kick there. It's this kick here. Comes up and strikes. It's a good combination. That's a good combination. And he continues, he looks for another kick there. No, the referee stops it. The first kick did some damage. And here we see... Well, yeah, we can see what he's done here. Looks pretty bad, Ed. That's correct. Our next action comes from the 1988 World Championships and features Vic himself. Vic Charles in red, still in white. Vic is well in control here. Oh, hook sweep. Punch, yeah, followed it. He put it in there. We see this again here. Vic is in control. There's a nice hook sweep in the front foot. Here he comes up. It's coming, do you see that? There he goes, hook. He's got to try to kick on the way down. He follows him. He punch, score. Ege and Mervin Etchin. Mervin Etchin's in the white here. It's an important match here. Here he comes. He's had a few battles here. Oh, wonderful reverse punch to the stomach. Ege tries a back fist on this. Ege is coming forward, but Mervin is just waiting here. He ignores the first one and he follows his straight up into Gakuzuki. Wonderful technique. Mike salesman in white, pressing his Japanese opponent. He's really putting a pressure on his Japanese fighter now. He's looking for a punch here. Oh, back kick. That's caught him low on the ribs. He was about to punch there. He was about to punch. That's why he left himself open. You can see here the Japanese fighter's coming in now. The pressure was there. He's looking for the punch. And here's Mike just coming in. He goes to punch and then the kick gets him out the stomach. It's a wonderful technique, really. Wayne Otto in white. Yeah, we've got a Japanese fighter here in red. Wayne's waiting here. Yeah, I think. Oh, Gakuzuki. Beautiful. Look how happy he is. Look, yes. I mean, Wayne just waited for that. I don't know what the Japanese fighter was doing here. I think he was coming in with a back kick here. Mike Gehry, who's setting Wayne up here, but he's expecting Wayne to go back. Wayne only had one thing in his mind. There it is. Oh, beautiful, the point. Wonderful technique. Again, red. And we've got Perrie in white here. Perrie here is really having to work hard here. He's moving around. Oh, wonderful, wonderful. That looked like a good punch. Let's have a look again. He's blocked that. Perrie comes around. You know, just keep an eye on Perrie's left hand, because he may block the kick here. Egi's knee goes up first. Oh, look, there's a block. That looked a good block. The punch was definitely in. Egi in red. Yeah, we've got a Japanese fighter in white here. Egi's both... Yeah, but he's really... Oh, wonderful technique. Here we go. Egi's counterpunch comes in here. Yeah, but the Japanese here is going to try and sweep him with his back leg. Watch his back leg. He comes forward. There's the front punch. Oh, yes. Very good counter. Mike Salesman in white. Here we've got Mike Salesman, lying up. Oh, brilliant sweep, take down, and then strike to the face. That's a maximum point there. Red belt lays, lines out here. He actually allows himself to be set up for this. Yeah, but you can see Michael here. He's just setting him up, and here it comes. Back leg again. He comes down. He follows up with a punch to the stomach. Pinder France in red against a Belgian opponent. Oh, they've missed it. Yeah, I think they missed that kick, and Pinder says, sorry about that, and he hits him again. Reverse kick, brilliant technique. They missed the first one, and he sets him up for another one. Here he goes. Pinder's pushing him back. It comes up. Urimawash hits him back in the face. And there, beautifully pawned. Pinder France in white. Japanese fights in red here. Pushing Pinder, pushing him all the time. They're just sizing each other up here. Oh, Urimawashi, brilliant. Japanese fighters pressured him, left himself wide open. This is why I said the Japanese fighters are attacking here. He's pushing, but not doing anything here. As soon as Pinder sees this open, he goes for it. Urimawashi, brilliant. No defense at all, none at all. George Best starts our next sequence of action from the Budokai's 1988 Albert Hall show. George Best in red. Yeah, he got a talent fight in white here. His pressure in now. Yeah, I think the talent fight look like he's a bit rowdy. Sweeps, kick. Oh, oh, Urimawash, good. He threw so many techniques there. Sweep kick. Here it comes again, you see here. George Best, he's got him rowing here. There's the spurs kick. He's throwing more. Oh, brilliant, brilliant kick there, brilliant kick. Elwyn Hall in the red belt. Oh, he's gone back. Two or three punches there, all could have scored. But he went back, he went, he lost his balance. The white belt lost his balance. Watch, as he goes and sweep, he goes back. He's lost his balance. This is Elwyn Hall in his best, sweeping and punching. Two punches there, two punches he scored then. Ipon, perfect Ipon. George Best in red. And he's fighting as a talent fighter. There's a punch. Oh, sweeps him in. Oh, brilliant Urimawash. He's trying to do it with a punch. But you can see here, the fighter, he's not reacting. He's actually scared of him. He sweeps his leg here, front leg. Picks up, oh, hits with a heel. No defence at all. Strikes now from the 1989 German Championships. Look at the German open here. Already the red belt is pushing here, he's pushing. Why is he just waiting to see what... Yeah, but here we go, look. Front punch missed there. Front punch should have got there. Went past. Look, he's stretching. Oh, that was a good opportunity. Yeah, it's an unusual technique. But brilliant technique. If you look at the red belt, he's going to try to punch it. Over stretch. He's definitely pressurising him there. The white belt grabs the hand and he comes over. Taking opportunities. And he chops his head. It's a brilliant technique. The red belt is still under pressure here. The white belt's working his way around. Tries to sweep there. Oh, no, the red belt's too... Oh, he's gone down his push to the head. We have a couple of sweeps there. No, it's coming in. It's trying to come... I think this is what happens there. He punches to the face. There's the sweep. As he goes down, push the head. Unguarded. Wonderful technique. Jerry Fleming in red. He's got a Yugoslavian fight. Oh, brilliant technique. Jerry gave him too much room for that. Oh, just about to say, he's dangerous, isn't it? He's in front of his home crowd here, the Yugoslavians. He's staying away, Jerry. Oh, caught as he's going back. Wallace of Scotland against a big Yugoslav. Yeah, it is an uneven match here because... He's pressurising him. Oh, he's gone down. Yes, he's a good point. He's pressurising him, but put that foot down too close. It's difficult. He's fighting a man much bigger than himself here. He's got to stay in close here. He attempts one kick. The second kick actually does it. He grabs the Yugoslav and sweeps him. Pays the penalty by putting that foot forward. Look at the crowd behind. Look at the crowd getting excited there. And there we go, Jerry Fleming. Oh, a kick! And a takedown and a punch! The kick went past. The kick definitely went past. And then Jerry sweeps him, hooks him on the floor. And then strikes to the stomach. And that's a maximum point. Karate is not just for men. Our coverage from the 1989 World Cup starts with the women. You've got Shirley Graham here on the white. She's quite a good puncher. Oh, a full punch, yeah. You can be quick to see these techniques. She sets up with the first one there and bang, the second one goes in. The red belt doesn't know what's happened. There's Molly Samuels in the red belt here. Japanese fighter in white. Yeah, it's interesting. Molly's trying to defend the title here. She's just working her way around, looking for an opening. She's trying to settle down now. Trying to settle down. The distance she's trying to get here. Oh, good punch, good punch. She had good drive on that. Made up a lot of ground on this. She settled down. She settled down. The Japanese girl just thinking about coming. Here she comes. She's still trying to get the distance. She's just thinking about coming. Here she comes. She's thinking about attacking Molly. Molly's on her left hand. She drives off that back foot. Drive it out to her. Brilliant technique. Molly Samuels in white here. Devastating puncher. The red belt here is just trying to... Oh! Wonderful technique. That was a peach of a gac. You watch this again. Again, Molly's got to settle down. She's in the pressure here. She missed the first punch there. Settles herself down. She's looking for one thing now. The red belt's going to run into her. I said peach of a gac. Just a hip on. Frenchman in the red. Belgian in the white. We've got the Frenchman here really working here. Look. He's looking for the kick. He looks like he can kick here. He looks like that. But the white belt's just keeping pressure. He wants to do something. He's got a short one. Oh! Urmawash. He got pushed in the corner and came out. This was all his on after the first feint. And also they tested him. Tested him, brought him back to the corner. Brought him back, relaxed him a little bit. Look at that. Oh! Beautiful technique. Beautiful technique. We've got a gear of Spain in the white. Red belt's using that leg. He looks as though he wants to kick with it. The gear here has been a bit scrapped by staying away from him. Pushing him, pushing him, pushing him back. Red belt's trying to keep him away with that front leg. But not really doing anything with it. Yeah, gear's just looking for a way in at the moment. Just looking for a way in. He's trying to relax, trying to relax the fire. Oh, here it is. Mistake. Oh! Gakuzuki. Red belt's trying to keep him away with his front leg. But the red belt's trying to kick too much. The gear's trying to look for a way in. He's looking for a way in. And there the kick comes. The leg comes up. He's still pushing him back. He's not doing anything with the front leg. He's just playing with that front leg. He's the penalty in the end. Here it is. The gear's setting him up. Grabs the leg, hooks him over, and strikes to the chest. Hip-on. The gear's spaying in wide. Red belt's trying to keep him away. Just picking up for the knee. Yeah, but the gear's already putting the pressure on him here. Oh, unlucky. He tries a low on there. Blocked with the knee. But the gear's still keeping the pressure on him. Oh, double kick. Oh! The rumble wash. The red belt's trying to double kick there. Oh, you watch this. He blocks the punch. And he's still in looking for something. He's still looking for something. See if he can get something here. He's pressurizing him. There's a double kick from the red belt. Oh, now the attacker's missed it. Oh, rumble wash. How did the rumble wash? Beautiful. The gear's spaying in wide. The red belt's trying to do a kick there. Just backs off the gear. Just trying to make some... Oh, it swept. A ten-over and a punch. Oh! If you watch here, we've got the red belt here. He's trying to kick. But he's not really trying to do anything. He's not a threatening kick. Just keeping him away with that. And that's suicidal against the gear. You've got to be positive when you're doing the kick. Because the other person doesn't want to attack you. Now, he's seeing his leg go. And again, he's looking for an open underneath. Dives in it. Sweeps the leg. The ball goes in over, really. It goes in over. The gear's spaying in red. Gazzarone of Italy in white. Looking aggressive. Oh, the washi-gerri to the face. The gear was right in the corner under pressure. But Gazzarone just pushing on there. He tried to kick. He missed the kick. Drops his hand here, Gazzarone. And he looks desperate, Gazzarone. And he comes in. There's the kick. Oh, brilliant. And the punch from Gazzarone was short. Big German girl here in the red. And the white is a French girl here. She's really looking here to put a reverse punch in, I think. Because the German goes, oh, yes, reverse punch. The white belt looked and scored. The German went in with a front punch here. But the white belt held back as long as possible. And it was striking with her left hand. Yeah, the front punch went straight up past her head here. And here it goes. Oh, brilliant. The French girl's got a brilliant technique there. Spanish fighter here in red. Turkish fighter in white. Again, the Turkish fighter looks busy here. The Spanish really fast, though. He's got a good punch. He's tried it there. But the Turkish fighter, he wants to kick. The white belt wants to. He's looking to kick at the moment. Oh, reverse punch. The Spanish made up a lot of ground on that. Look here, the Turkish fighter did something. He went and kicked here. He's not sure what to do here. He's thinking about it. Watch the Spanish just cover that ground. The speed of this cover and a punch to follow. Oh, brilliant. The sweet fighter in white here. Yugoslavia's in red. You can see the sweet fighter just, oh, he's got to react quicker than that. His Yugoslavia's strong and he's pushing him back. But the Swedish fighter is doing it. Oh, he's made a mistake. And his punch, he's made a mistake. He pulled a kick back. The Yugoslav did a lovely return block here. Turned him all the way. And then the Swedish fighter goes to, he goes to kick. He blocks that and then there he goes to kick. He comes to kick and the Yugoslav turns it. Here he goes, turns it around. Ball is down. It bumped him. Tim Stevens of Britain in red here. The white belt here is working hard trying to get in. Tim's a renowned kicker so he should be looking to do something in that way. Yeah, but this white belt looks very, very tricky. Yeah. Oh! Oh, that was a good technique. Tim worked his way around this and looked for the open side. Yeah, but see he's bringing the white belt, he's trying to force it. There's the kick. Oh, right on the button. Now we've got the white belt here. Tim Stevens in red. Oh, beautiful takedown. And a strike to the face. Tim held back there, didn't react. Yeah, but look at this again. He's coming, he's hooked him from the back. And there's no reaction. Punch him to the face. Oh, that's a maximum point. We've got Dula Switzerland in the red belt. Belgian fighter here in white. There's Dula here really looking for opening here. He's trying to work out which is the best angle to fight. Belgian fighter's just holding to see what... Oh! Spoke too soon, Abdul. It's a Mawashi Gary. Yeah. Dula works around on this. Goes open, but you see a feint to the body with a body kick. But Dula here thinking that he's just going to just go and wait there and punch. Yeah, and he's just low kicking in, up over and then oh, he's gone. Brilliant take, man. Punches afterwards, but he won't be counting. Yeah. In slow motion, the skill and speed of karate can be clearly seen, as it can in the World Chateau Cup of 1919. We've got a Japanese fighter in red. English fighter here in white. The Japanese fighter's been very, very cagey here. Very cagey. Englishman's pressurizing him and looking for an opening. But it looks like the Japanese is waiting for him to make his... Oh! Just saying that straight in. That's hard to tell who got that first, but... It looked to me like the Japanese got him first here. Oh, yes, he went underneath. Right underneath. Italian fighter in white. The Irish fighter in red. The Italian's looking for a Gekkozuki. He's holding off and looking. Yeah. The Irish fighter's not sure what to do here. He's trying to work this whole reverse punch. I said the Italian was waiting for that Gekkozuki, and as soon as the opening came, he took it. The Irish fighter's giving something away now. He's trying to decide what to do. He's not really sure, so he's gone for the really big technique here. And the Italian just nips him back. It's gone. We have the British fighter here in the red belt. The Australian is in white. The British fighter's trying to work out what to do here. I think he's looking for a punch. He's definitely going to look for a punch. He's going to try and counter anything he does. The Australian's just holding off and seeing all... Oh, brilliant back kick. The back kick was good to me. It's hard to see here whether the punch or the kick was first. Well, if you look again, it seemed to me the back... No, the punch is definitely first. Punch and reverse. We have the British fighter in the red belt. The Australian's in white, and he's trying to stump him off. He's trying to keep him away. The red belt's here, still working though. He's still trying to look for a good... Oh! Again, look to me, the British competitor's scored in the face. He blocks the punch. The Australian goes for the first Gakuzuki. Looks like he blocks it, and yeah, he strikes to the face. I would have given the point the other way. Ronnie Christopher in red. The white belt here is very, very tall. Oh, he's chasing him back. He's looking for something. The runner's got to be very careful here. Oh, he's... Oh, strike to the face from the white belt. He left his face wide open. He's right in, looking for something, and left his face wide open. There it is. Beautiful punch. Ronnie Christopher in red. Tries to kick there, but... Paints it again. It looked like the white belt was waiting for him. Oh! Shudanzuki. Reverse punch. Ronnie teased him with a couple of kicks. Yeah, but the white belt was just waiting for him, see? He should have came back at him there, but no. Ronnie goes straight into him. Two punches. Japanese fighter in red. We've got a Swedish fighter here in white. Japanese fighter, yeah. Look at the size difference there. But these Japanese can make up the difference in speed, huh? We're at the moon. Oh! Good strike here from the white belt. The Japanese fighter running and left his face open. The Swedish fighter's not going to go back. He was just going to stay on his ground. Block. Strike. Control punch to face. Ronnie Christopher in white belt. Red belt's just holding off there. I don't know what to do with Ronnie at the moment. Yeah, there's Ronnie here. He's trying to work an angle. Oh! Reverse kick to the face. That's a brilliant technique. He stood off the red belt, stood off Ronnie, and paid the price. Yeah, it's giving Ronnie too much space here, so you cannot do that. One missed. There's the kick. It's gone. Ronnie Christopher's in control here. There's the white belt here. Trying to push him away now. Ronnie's biding his time, looking around, using the area. He's still trying to work him, though. He's trying to get a space here where he can use it for an attack. Oh! He went in with a gakuzuki there. That's the point. He used the area well and made ground. He scores a gakuzuki there. And the kick goes up. Elwyn Hall in white belt here. Yeah, the red belt here, not sure what... Oh! He swept in there, double punch. The red belt attacked with a huracan back fist, which is left hand. Elwyn takes the sweep, though. Elwyn's there, and a double punch to finish. Elwyn Hall in red. And Japanese in white. Elwyn's looking to set him up for the sweep. Punches first. Japanese fighter here just making sure... Oh, it's a punch here! Oh, hook sweeps him, double punch. Elwyn actually blocks the Japanese punch. Elwyn missed the first sweep. Missed the first sweep. Japanese punch, he catches the punch. Turned it around. Turned it around. Beautiful point. Our final selection of 101 karate strikes comes from the 1990 European Championships. There's Charles Bailey in white. Massey flanks in red. Oh, punch there. Oh, brilliant strike from the red belt there. He tries to sweep Massey, and follows it with a punch. Charles Bailey, no defend, nothing to answer to that. Straight back. Punch over. There's Charles here, still pushing. Massey's working his way round, looking for an opening. Charles not sure what to do. Charles is going to attack here, he's just going to attack. Oh, again Massey strikes to the chest. He counterpunched, he drew him into that punch. Charles is pressurizing him, Massey draws him into the punch. Blocks it and strikes him. Dieter Germany in red. And Mervyn Etienne in white. Oh, reverse punch from Mr. Etienne. Dieter didn't react to that. He's too quick, he's too quick. Mervyn sits back, faces the first one, and drives straight in. No reaction. We've got Mike Salsman in white belt here. Spun it in red. Mike Salsman is known for his sweep, he's trying to keep this guy away at the moment. He's pushing him back. There's the kick. Spun it in for the kick there. Here it comes, there's Michael here, he tries to block. He gets pushed back and there's the kick coming at one. Blocks it. Michael Salsman in white. And the red belt here is trying to keep on his toes, just trying to find a gap. Oh! Michael, buying his time on that, just look for an opening. And some of that gap has occurred. There's Willie Thomas in white now. Spanish fighter in red. And the pressure at the moment. Spun is pushing him. Willie's just trying to punch then. Oh! And it's a strong punch to the chest there. Spun went with two punches over the top there. If you watch here, Willie's looking, blocking, keeping his court bench striking. It's Ian Cole in white. A gear in red. Oh, Ian Cole just punched him. Oh, and he's trying to finish it off. He's bowled him over there. Gis fell over. The gear was coming at him. Ian punched him back, punched him in the stomach. And then went off to finish the fight. And then stumped on him and then punched. It's Ian Cole in white. A gear in red. He's pressurising the man. Ian's just waiting there to see what happens. Oh! They both reacted to the punch. A gear hooked on that one then punched. Look again, a gear, both of them waiting. It's the first one to react to it. Hooked, punched. Oh! It's a gear in red. Ian Cole in white here. Pushes him back with a punch. Oh! Brilliant kick to the face. And then takes it right over. Watch this. A gear just standing there waiting, not sure what's going to come. Pushes him out with a punch. Throws to a chewed-arm kick here. And then takes it right over, kicked to the face. Charles Bailey in white. We've got the Spanish fighter in red here. I think the Spanish fighter is looking. Charles is pushing him back towards the corner there. Oh! Oh! Charles walked onto that. Pushed him in the corner. And they're all... They've got Charles Bailey in white. Spanning in red. I think Charles here is definitely going to try and put some pressure on this one. Spanning is holding back, just trying to entice him into a technique. Oh! Good punch there from Charles. The Spanning backed off, trying to make room for his attack. Oh! Good punch there from Charles. The Spanning backed off, trying to make room for his attack. The Spanning backed off, trying to make room for his attack. But see, Charles is really setting him up here. Charles knows he's going to rush in. Yeah, the Spanning is backing off here and then starts to go forward. And tries to do it at speed and gets caught going in. And tries to do it at speed and gets caught going in. Someone's going to make a move there. Here it comes. Oh! Moving it in here on the white belt. Moving it in here on the white belt. Spanning in red. Moving there, just trying to find his way now. Oh! Good move there from Charles. The Spanning just ran onto that. Oh! See how he moved to step back. The Washing Gear. The Washing Gear. The Washing Gear. Gazzarone of Italy in white. Oh! Double punch from Gazzarone. Gazzarone went, pushed the front hand out. Followed up with the backhand. And the Gear was just trying to counter. There he goes, right in the face. Gazzarone is getting pushed back. And the Gear is always on the prowler. He's looking for opening. Oh! Backfist! That's a backfist from Gazzarone. He lifts the leg up here. He drives in. He tries to feint the Gear. The Gear's still got him there. Gazzarone's going to go in here. See, backfist. Oh, brilliant. Gazzarone in white. The Gear in red. Oh! Brilliant technique from the Gear. Three or four punches went in there. But the Gear was so sharp. Again, Gazzarone is going to attack here. He's forced to attack. The Gear's sharpness really pulls it out here. On a retreat. Bang! Oh, brilliant technique. Perrier, France, and the red belt just scored. Again, this comes out so quickly. The white belt punches as Perrier's coming in. The white belt scores. We've got Perrier, France. The white belt's pressurizing him here. He's looking for an opening. Perrier's just really... Oh! Brilliant technique. Perrier drew him into this. Yes, the white belt approached. He blocks it. Backfist. Controlled as well. Perrier, France. Oh! The white belt looks much quicker than Perrier. Perrier got hit there as he moved in. Oh! Beautiful strike. And then hits him back. That's fighting the red belt here. The white belt's pressurizing him. Looking for an opening. Yeah, but his white belt looks very awkward. Oh! A kick went up there. Bad kick. Good kick. Oh! He's blocked. Geck has looked at his face there. Good technique. Blocked. Down. And then he striked. Jimmy Collins of Scotland in white. And then we've got a Turk in red. Turk's quite explosive with his kicks. Well, see, Jimmy here is trying to work something. Look at those kicks. Oh! Good punch to the face. The Turk is quite... The Turk is quite... tried to keep those kicks going. And got hit in the face. No, he's okay. Here we see the kicks going up. There's the second one. See, Jim's just getting away and then he counters to the face. Brilliant. Jimmy Collins in white. And we've got a Turk in red. He's... Oh! Jimmy's trying a couple of kicks here. Oh! Oh! Good category to the back. Jimmy left his back open. He's trying a back kick. Falls over. Red belt missed the punch. Then he realised what's happened. He's coming in. He'll kick to the back. Dutch in the red belt. White belt trying to kick there. Just moving around. And... He's still working his way in. He's looking to do something. Yeah, but I think the red belt's got him really under pressure here. Oh! Strong punch. Very good punch. The white belt's trying to react, but it's too late. He had no answer to that. Watch this. He drives forward. Straight in. Deter of Germany in red. Dula in white. Deter's really strong here. He's pushing Dula back. Dula here's still trying to look for the gap. Here he is. He's pressuring. He's looking for an opening, Deter. Oh! Good reverse punch there from the red belt. That was pressure all along there. I think the white belt didn't have an answer to that. Again, you can see. He's gone up. He's thrown something. The pressure brought him out. Deter of Germany in red. We've got Dula here. Still under pressure. That was a good reverse punch there. He tries to kick. The kick's low. It's much too low. He's still looking there. There he comes. He's still looking there. He reacts. Dula's definitely under pressure. He's looking at... Good reverse punch. It's too late. The reverse punch was in. Dula pushes out here. The kick's too low. Side kicks. It looks too low to me. They'll stop the fight. Deter pushing Dula back here. Dula's still trying to get some points here. He knows he's got to go. Deter applies pressure all the time. And he's stopped! Both punch at the same time. They both punch at the same time. If you look here, they're moving in. Dula's got to go. It blocks the kick. There's the punch. Nobody gives any points. Lesley Flair cloth in red. And he's fighting Simi. Of Italy, who's in white. He's putting pressure on his. Definitely stamping him out there. Oh, Lesley tries to... He's gone. He falls over. And Simi counts on the floor. Two punches to the face. He's got his footwork mixed up there. He's trying to shuffle forward. And his footwork let him down. He goes down here. He catches Simi's leg. And then Simi falls on top of him. And a hip-on for that double punch. Yeah, there's Lesley here. Yeah, I think he's been hitting the iron now. We're looking for contact. And we've got Simi in white. Lesley comes out here. Lesley's got to go now. And she's been putting the pressure on him. Oh, brilliant technique! I think the kick missed there. The kick missed. It looked into me. Now, if we see this again, the kick misses short. And then Simi finishes with a punch. He's up to shine in the red belt. And he's been pressured here by the white belt. Oh, he's got to be careful here. He's going to go... Oh, Gakuzuki's straight underneath that. It's a brilliant block. There we go. He's pretending to go in. He's fainting. He's pulling the man out. He's blocked the punch. He's still looking. He slips in. Chu Danzuki. He's up to shine in red belt. And Simi of Italy in white. Oh, Gakuzuki! It looked to me as if he was in first. If we look here... It looks like he's giving the white belt too much space. He has to close him up slightly. He has to close him up here. And here he's got his hand guard up. He's still looking for that punch. But now the white belt's moved before him. He's striked him. He's got Tim Stevens in the red belt. Hungarian in the white belt. Oh, good punch there. Hungarian went for a sweep and missed. But Tim's punch was short as well. Tim's slightly under pressure now. Oh, good punch again. Hungarian goes for a firm punch here. And Tim goes underneath. There's the sweep. Oh, good punch. There we go. Mike Salisbury of England in the white belt. The red belt in Norwegian. No score there. Mike is there trying to look to pressure this red belt here. No, he's not really doing a lot. He's just biding his time looking for an opening. Oh, reverse punch. Good. You just said he wasn't doing much. He's just gone slightly under pressure. He's just going to try to get a little bit of space. He's just going to try to get a little bit of space. You just said he wasn't doing much. He's just gone straight in there. Norwegian just stood right off and... Strong punch. As Mike Salisbury in the white belt, you can see the crowd here really going to appreciate this fight here. Norwegian's under pressure. Oh, Mike swept him there, followed with a punch. If we see this, there's a double leg sweep, followed down, bang upon. Norwegian's under pressure here in red. As Mike Salisbury there, just keep pushing him back now. He's doing a lot of techniques, in my sense. There's a punch there from the Norwegian. But it's all constant pressure here. Mike was putting far too much pressure on him. He's not really doing anything positive. He leaves himself open. Gekkerzegger just comes in and nared, bang, a point. Mike Salisbury's looking to finish this now. He's looking, setting up for something. Oh, good strike from the red belt then. Good front leg strike. Mike just didn't react. Michael ducked out of it. He didn't block, he didn't do anything. And he got caught cold. He was trying to make his way through. And the Norwegian just reacts there. Punch is too late. Yugoslavian in red belt, they're picking themselves up. This Yugoslavian's a very good kicker, you have to watch him. White belt's pushing him back here. Pushing him in too much. Trying to kick there, the white belt. Oh, brilliant technique. You know, we were expecting that kick to come any time. It's really strong kick. As you can see here, you can't push a kicker. Yugoslavian comes out. Oh, right across his jaw. Simey of Italy in white. And Kelle of Sweden in red. We've got Simey here. Oh, washi geri, looked good. I think he blocked it there and went... Oh, good punch, good punch. A bit of fun and games there. Follow up after that. I think the Swedish guy here gets a couple of punches in near the scoring points. We've got Simey of Italy in the white belt here. Kelle of Sweden in the red belt. And Kelle's just holding it back. Oh, unlucky Simey. He's going to try that again. Always keep changing his stance. Always keep the other person under pressure. Oh, good back kick. Doesn't get it. Oh, the punch. This is interesting. The red belt tries a back kick here. The back kick, it gets to the target. No point there, but then one to the face. Simey in the white. Kelle in red. Simey again putting the red belt under pressure. Kelle is holding back. That's his normal pattern. Simey's capable of doing anything here though. Oh, good punch there. Kelle hung back too much there. Good punch from Simey. Very good punch as you can see. He rushes straight in. Strikes to the face. Strikes to the face. There's Tim Stevens here in the red. Mafato of Italy in white. There's Tim here. You've got to look out for Tim Stevens' kick. They're very fast. These two fight each other quite often. So it's a crazy fight at the moment. And they're looking to see the arm. Oh, good punch from Tim Stevens. He hooked that first, then punched. That's a good hook from Gakuzuki. Good point. Tim Stevens in the red belt. Mafato in white. Mafato's under pressure. He just lost a point. Tim's still got to keep working him. Oh, is that Mawash? Oh no, he scored a back fist. Mawash went in first. They're giving the punch. They're giving the punch. It's a brilliant technique. As you can see here. Kick goes in, definitely in there with the kick. The referees are missing. Tim stops, Tim stops, and then the Italian strikes him back. Yugoslavia in the white. Red belt's not really doing anything. He's just holding off. You've got to be careful as Yugoslavia, because they can kick. He's just standing his ground, looking for an opening, but not really doing a great deal. Oh, first back kick. Definitely, he mustn't give them room to do. Oh, that was brilliant. As you can see again, it's given him too much space. Hit the target. Yugoslavia here just going back to his position here. Red belt's got to really pull the finger out now, because he's not doing an awful lot. I think again he's going to give the Yugoslavian space there. He's got to close him down slightly here. That's it, but he's got to pick the pace. I think we just said, Urimulwash. Spinning Urimulwash. There he goes. Right on the button. He knows he's got it. Yugoslavia's well in command here. Brilliant punch. He wasn't expecting that, the red belt. He's just gone straight out and hit him in the face. Beautiful punch. Oh, reverse kick again. Two techniques, superb techniques there. No score. There's a spinning kick. Oh, well controlled. We've got Mike Salsman here on the red belt. Anderson of Norway, no white belt. Mike Salsman just working. Oh, front kick. They look good. I think he blocked that one there. That looks very, very good. And he weighs back to work again. The Norwegian's still on his toes. He's looking for an opening. No point. We see this kick. The kick looked good. The kick looked very good. Mike Salsman here. Anderson's just picked himself off the floor. And he's really got to get going on this. Mike's well in control. Yeah, but Michael's just going to drag him on here. Look. The white belt really wants to go. Oh, brilliant front hand. That was very, very good. Well controlled. Straight up. Oh, yes. Mike Salsman in control. He's looking at the time. Oh, the white belt just got a point there. He's got to come forward. He's going to put pressure on Michael now. Oh, punch. He hooked him as he was coming in. Oh, he's got to come forward. He's got to come forward. Oh, he's got to come forward. Oh, he's got to come forward. Oh, he's got to come forward. Oh, he's got to come forward. Oh, he's got to come forward. He pulled the white belt into this technique. The white belt was attacking him. He's going for the point. Oh, punch. Oh, he's got to come forward, and he's got to come forward. You You
