Murder, murder, murder. Are you starting to get the picture? Now just $2.99 a month for the first year. Order now by calling 1-866-591-5556. Almost there. We're holding hands. I like holding hands. Me too. Do you have the time? Sorry. Watch, source subject. It's fine. I'm just nervous. You're right. I'm sure you're right. So, you okay? Ready for the meeting? Yes. Good luck. Not that you need it. You're going to be great. I'll see you tonight at the concert. Concert? What concert? I was kidding. That was me kidding. You know, the British sense of... Never mind. Bye. Yeah, see you tonight. Do me a favour. Call Tantra and push my reservation to nine. Fine. Have someone dash over to Harvey Nicks. I need a present for... The Samantha's graduation concert. You forgot, didn't you? I reminded you twice. Yes, no, I don't know. I don't know if I did or didn't forget. I forgot yesterday, but I don't think I forgot today. Did you wear that yesterday? Quite possibly. On the pittance you pay me, I've only got the couple of things. Claire, can I ask you a question? If you must. Did you ever have a dream and the next day everything feels familiar? Not like it's from the dream. Yes, I have. For example, last night I dreamt that you would bore me to death first thing this morning and lo and behold... Come on, seriously. Seriously? Yes. Ian, I believe dreams are very important. They should be listened to. You really think so? Yes. And I also believe that you should get your arse over to that meeting or you'll be sacked and I'll be on the dole. And those are AGS's main objectives. To design new ways to treat, cure or prevent the countless illnesses that afflict humankind. I'm happy and more than a little proud to report that AGS is way ahead of the competition in this area. Now... in terms of your investments... These seven-year projections will clearly document everything we've discussed so far. We've amortized the cost of the research over a ten-year period. And within that I knew it! I knew you'd be here! Easy. OK. You've heard my pitch and I can tell by the unbridled excitement on your faces. I mean, come on, guys, settle down. This is not a party. This research isn't about profit projections or amortized costs or about beating the competition. It's about giving people the most precious gift possible... time. This is a great opportunity and I say grab it. What do you think? Did you land the money then? I did. The strangest thing, because the other time when Samantha walked into the meeting I thought she messed everything up. Oh, didn't tell you guys about the dream? The dream I had? Well, of course not, because that would be tonight. OK, then, tell us about the dream. It was more of a déjà vu. Ah, déjà vu. Sometimes dismissed as a random neurological event, but it's often a message from deep within the soul. And when the soul comes tapping at the door, it's time to let him in. No problem. No? Dr. Phil. Oh. You're up, guys. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, that's not what I'm talking about. There are certain things that I know are going to happen. Excuse me, but haven't we met before? In my dreams. I'll just piss off, will ya? You see, I knew that would happen. Ian, we all knew that was going to happen. So can you remember anything useful then, like the 3.30 winner at Newmark? No, I'm afraid not, but everything is the same. It's just in a slightly different order. Oh, ho, ho, ho. Slightly different. I, um, I've got to go. Life isn't a game. Everything is changing so fast. Why did you lie? It's an all-or-nothing proposition. I can't keep doing this. Chris, where have you been? What were you thinking? Do you have any idea how much trouble I'm in? Chris, time to go. At the end of the day, my girlfriend gets into this taxi, stops at a light, it's hit, and she... Is that going to happen? Is it? What if she doesn't get in the cab? What if I take her out of London? Do you have any idea how much trouble I'm in? Chris, time to go. Don't miss a minute of the all-new season of Wildfire. Mondays at 8, 7 Central, only on... Good evening. Welcome to the show where you play music mogul. My name is Ryan Seacrest. And if this morning's sound check is anything to go by, you are in for American Idol's most energetic show. And if you're not, you're not going to be able to make it. You're going to be in for the show. And if you're not, you're not going to be able to make it. You're going to be in for the show. And if you're not, you're not going to be able to make it. You're going to be in for American Idol's most energetic show yet. Whoo! Sadly, we all have to do the show without Nadia. I know. Your fault. And after his first time in the bottom three, Bo needs to have a big night tonight. Bo fans here in the house. Plus, Scotty the Body needs to really get down on it. The Scotty fans here. But we are live and anything can happen. And these guys will make sure it does. Say hello to our judges, Randy, Paula, and Simon. Whoo! So, of course, the contestants will need a theme. Last week, I broke the news. Take a look. Here they are to top seven on Idol. Whoo! You guys are very quiet and nervous and intense. And now, you ready for the theme? Okay, the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, also Earth, Wind & Fire. Don't guess, I'll just tell you. 70s dance music. That is the theme. Let's boogie. Let's boogie, Constantine. Scotty, we want to know if you have the fever. Nobody's going to be able to keep up with me next week, man. We accept the challenge. See you guys. Good game. Ah, yes. 70s dance classics. Now, maybe the songs were before most of our contestants' times, but they are true classics. We're expecting this to turn into club Idol tonight, okay, guys? So get up, feel that funk. After all, it is open bar. Yeah, I figured they... Wayne is doing great. He works out hard. He's sweating. He's dripping sweat. I think he works out the hardest out of the three. Entering the third week of the challenge, Wayne is down about 16 pounds. But Jenny's weight has barely budged. That's a pound more than the other day. At the Craig household, the challenge is taking an emotional toll. Mom's making fish again. No, she's not. I'm starving. I know. Go ahead. Do you have any other weapons on you? Basically, this chart shows that he has two of these devices, so he can go from one to the other. He'll put his mash in here and cook the mash, and then start the fermentation process, and then the cooling device, running through the cooling device, could be water, could be dry ice, to cause it to condense with the spirit of slicker coming out on the end. I called my mom, my lawyer too. Do you have the affidavit? We came here today. The lady of the house was home. We entered, served the warrant. In addition to the still, we found marijuana grow operation, 14 small plants. When the suspect came home, we also found that he had a pair of brass knuckles in his pocket. That's basically it. We took the still, the marijuana, the brass knuckles, into evidence, and both residents were booked into the Pierce County Jail. The person probably brewed that stuff for a long time and not hurt anybody, but the first time you brew it, you don't get your recipe exactly right. The concoction you make could, at the very least, blind somebody, and worst-case scenario, kill the person that's drinking it. The concoction he was making could be deadly. It sure didn't look good. 132 inbush. I got him at gunpoint. Okay, gunpoint 132 inbush. Coverage code 3. Okay. We'll still find a code 3. These are members of the Texas Special Weapons and Tactics Teams, known as SWAT. When civilians need help, they call the cops. When the cops need help, they call us. Within what? Five minutes. As the SWAT team takes the war on drugs into the street. Hands behind your back now! Hands behind your back! Next Sunday, 9, 8 Central, only on ABC. It's what you've been waiting for. A new Grey's Anatomy starts now. Previously on Grey's Anatomy. Meredith wasn't a fling. I fell in love with her. Yeah, it's my mother. She has Alzheimer's. Have you even bothered to tell work about the baby? I had a right to know. I failed the medical boards. That's pretty embarrassing. I'm pregnant, you blind moron. Can we please just talk? You're too busy screwing nurses to talk. I never wanted to hurt you. Sometimes I think we'd be better off in dog. I said down back! Izzy! Izzy! Incoming! Fresh starts. Thanks to the calendar, they happen every year. Just set your watch to January. You know, I'm thinking about coloring my hair. Maybe red. That's good. I'm thinking about cutting mine. Yeah? You look good shorter. You think? He's a good boy. He's such a good dog. He's a good boy. He's a good boy. What a good dog. Who's mommy's good boy? So you know I'm a good boy. You're such a good boy. What are you guys doing in there? We're gonna be late. We need to talk about the dog. That's not a dog. It's a hyena. Skipped from the zoo dressed in dog clothing. Whatever. I don't chew up his clothes. I don't urinate on his bed. I don't try to mount him from behind. People, he's our dog. We love our dog. He loves us. I'm not on the sidewalk. I try but I can't stop. He tries to mount you from behind? He tries to. He tries to. I'm not on the sidewalk. Our reward for surviving the holiday season is a new year. Bringing on the great tradition of New Year's resolutions. I got a trout. Rainbow trout. Why did you bring a trout into the house? The trailer. Why did you bring a rainbow trout into the trailer? Breakfast. Breakfast. Yeah, you hungry? The trout? Yeah. I hate this, Derek. I hate this. Hey, hey. I hate this trailer. There's no trout for you then. Put your past behind you and start over. I'm standing there with Pritchard and Lewis and they keep on asking me who I was with in the on-call room last night. They heard us. Were we that loud? You're loud. Stop. I am loud, aren't I? Pritch was always sticking his nose in someone else's business. You know I actually saw him again at his wife's funeral. What? Pritchard isn't married. Oh, right, right. I'm thinking of someone else. Just confused. You need sleep. Residency is wearing you down. Ellis. Yes. Nothing. I just hate being an inter. Me too. It's hard to resist the chance at a new beginning. A chance to put the problems of last year to bed. So, in the name of the new year. Oh, I don't do resolutions. In the name of the new year, I thought you could give me an answer to my question. Your question? About you. Moving in? I don't have an answer. Christina. I'm not being Christina. I just, I don't have an answer. Then answer me this. What were you planning to do? About what? The baby. Dr. Burke, we're ready for you. Listen up, people. New year, new rules. Or should I say new year, and we will be enforcing the rules mandated by the Residency Review Committee. There were too many mistakes made last year. Fatigue played too big a role. Exceeding 80 hours work per week will not be tolerated. Does that mean we actually get to have a life? I think so. Sullivan, you are on call for 28 hours leave when you hit 30. Gray, you were here until 2 a.m. last night. See you at noon. I get to go? Free time? Run before he changes his mind. Oh, and people, our nurses are going to have to work extra hours to compensate, so treat them well. Cranking nurses don't do us any good. Well, maybe you can cheer them up. You know what? My New Year's resolution was to let it go, and I am. I have. I've let it go. I apologize. You do? I do. How'd your test go? I feel pretty good about it, but I won't know for a few days. Well, we're all pulling for you. We are? We are. You can see the mesothelioma better now that I've partially dissected it. I can't really see it from here. Can I go to the classroom? You're fine there. Preston, good news. We have a heart for Danny Duquette. Great news. Has he been called? Got here 10 minutes ago. Good. I was worried we couldn't find a matching time. We have a plan ready to take you to Twin Falls, Idaho for the organ recovery. 90 minutes each way. How much more do you have here? Well, the heart comes out first, and I'll be cutting it too close. They have a local heart team there, so... No, Bailey. It's in Bailey. She'll be our eyes. Dr. Yang, you need to leave this OR. Excuse me? You've exceeded your 80-hour limit for the week. You have to leave the hospital. Okay. As soon as the mesothelioma is dissected out... Dr. Yang, now. You heard him. Danny Duquette? Hey, Dr. Bailey. I hope seeing you here means they finally found you a heart. No offense, doctor, but I'm not a big fan of hospitals. It takes something pretty special to get me in here. And what do we know about Mr. Duquette? Capricorn, single. Loves to travel and cook. Danny, be quiet. Let her show off. Danny Duquette, 36, admitted today for a heart transplant necessitated by a viral cardiomyopathy. And what does that mean? That his heart is unable to fill and pump blood normally. Danny, this is Dr. Stevens. She'll be attending to you prior to surgery. So I guess I'll be seeing you around, Dr. Stevens. Dr. Bell, 2743. Dr. Bell, 2743. I got a hand into the guy. I'm trying to get some action when he's practically a corpse. Alex, you're just trying to be nice. No unenforced an 80-hour work week when I was an intern. 110, 120 hours suited me just fine. I learn more because I work more. Well, at least this way you get to rest before you have the baby. I mean, being that pregnant, keeping up this pace. Are you saying I look tired, O'Malley? No, not tired. No. You look fresh spry. You glow. What? Stop now. O'Malley, go do an intake on Addison Shepherd's patient. Addison. You do glow. Like the moon. And you can spend the day in the pit, Karev. Dr. O'Malley? Hi. Mr. and Mrs. Singleton. Rebecca, this is Dr. Montgomery-Shepard. You don't think it's cancer, do you? Bex is too young for cancer, right? Mrs. Singleton, I'm just getting up to speed. I'm sorry, Dr. O'Malley? Rebecca has been admitted for... Did you stop calling me that? She prefers Bex, not Rebecca. Bex has been admitted for an ultrasound-guided biopsy on an enlargement of a pelvic lymph node. Okay. Bex, mind if I check it out? Okay. I'll just, um... It's a minor procedure, Bex, but we'll give you a local anesthetic to manage the pain. What are you drawing? Just a dumb comic. You're really talented. It's big. I know. It just appeared one day. I'll perform a biopsy this morning, and Dr. O'Malley will have to take some blood so we can run some tests, and then we can start to get you some answers. Okay? Mrs. Singleton, there's no need to panic. I'll keep you posted every step of the way. Thank you. Sorry about this, but I'm gonna need that arm to get some blood. I'll be quick. Mr. Paskowitz, we've located the source of your abdominal pain. There. It's called a Beesorb. Beesorb, huh? It's a clump of foreign matter that couldn't be expelled with a prokinetic agent. I love it. In a hospital, a laxative is a prokinetic agent. So what? You just go up his butt and grab it? Baby, please. Actually, we won't be able to reach it that way. We'll have to get it from here. So, Mauer, tell me what you've been eating. Garbage. Absolute garbage. Could you be more specific? Tell him what you ate, Mauer. He's a writer. Suffering for his art. Okay. He ate his novel. I'm sorry, what? I ate my novel, okay? The whole damn thing. Every last piece of that unmitigated crap. Oh, oh, suppose you'll never know The all-new Big Araf 4. Oh, that's...he did history, right? Any mention of birth control pills? No, but her parents were right there. Talk to her again. But she hasn't had puberty yet. Isn't it weird she'd be having sex? These days, Dr. O'Malley, it's not that unusual. Talk to the patient. Derek. Morning, Richard. You busy? No, my surgery just got canceled, boy. I need a favor. Sure. Hey, Becks. Is it your mom and dad? Food. Great. Because I wanted to talk to you. Your lab works so... Have you been taking birth control pills? If you tell my mom and dad... No, I won't. I just need to know why. Do you have a boyfriend? Like anybody would want to have sex with me. Well, then why? I'm as flat as a board. I took like five of those pills a day. And nothing's different. Boobs, dude. You...were trying to make your breasts grow. I wanted to be normal for once in my life. Is this what caused the tumor? No. No, the pill wouldn't have any effect on your lymph nodes. But the amount that you were taking is really dangerous. It caused a pretty major hormonal imbalance. Have you been feeling different than usual? I feel like I always feel. Hi. Hi. You leaving? 80-hour limit. You? Surgery was postponed. I have a dog. You have a dog? My point is, I have a dog. You have a dog. Oh, you know what? I love dogs. I've moved on, so don't give me that look. A look? That look. Our look. I'm over you. I'm over you, too. You are? No. Oh. Well, I am. Over you. Over you, too. I just said, shut up. Hi. Bye. There is a land called Passive Aggressiva, and you are their queen. I am fine. You're shrieking about trout. I was not shrieking about trout. You weren't. You were shrieking about Meredith. No, I was shrieking about the trailer. I hate the trailer. Oh, okay. So the past three weeks have been about the trailer. Yes. Not about the fact that I said I love Meredith. Loved. What? You said you loved her past times. Right. Yes, past times. Well, then I have been shrieking about the trailer. Okay, Maurer, it's time to return your book to the library. Your surgery's in an hour. What's up with this flop sweat? Probably just nerves. But I'm sweating like Nixon, President Richard Milhouse Nixon. That guy could sweat. And I, Maurer Paschowitz, I wrote an epically crap novel that I sure as shine older can sweat like Nixon. It's not even that bad of a book. I read practically every draft. Forgive me, honey, but you are not exactly Lionel Trilling. It blows. Lionel Trilling? He seeks the approval of dead literary critics. The dead don't read, Maurer. You think about being something other than a writer? No. I am a writer. Maurer Paschowitz. I have no Plan B. You can't get married for three years till the damn book is done. Three years? I listen to him piss and moan. For what? So he can eat the thing? Ha! Does the computer have a delete button? I want it to literally put it behind me and start a new book. Okay. We all get the symbolism. It's painfully obvious. It's obviously painful. Hi. I heard you're going to Twin Falls, Idaho. I've never been. You reached 80 hours? Technically. You're off work, Christina. Go enjoy your day. I'll enjoy my day if I can help retrieve a heart, I promise. It's a nice coat. You see that, Dr. O'Malley? It looks like the tumor is compressing an ovary. That's why I biopsied both ovaries. Is that bad? It's really just a precaution, Bex. Want to apply pressure, Dr. O'Malley? Mm-hmm. Want to get this up to PATH? You mind doing the dressings? Sure. All right, Bex, then we'll get you the results just as soon as possible. You're a doctor. Haven't you seen scars before? I'm just trying to figure out why someone with so much talent would want to do that. It's just a comic book. It's about me and my best friend Jen when we were kids. Satisfied? Does she write it with you? Jen has a boyfriend like everyone else. I get to be a freak all by myself. A freak? That's not the easiest thing to be in high school, is it? It's not like my shrink. Hey, I wasn't always a doctor. In high school, I was secretary and treasurer of the Dungeons & Dragons Club. Oh, man. Yeah. I was also a math link, and I won the Blue Ribbon in biology club. Best fetal pig dissection. I'm going to tell you that after the girl's knocking down my door. You just have to get through high school, because high school sucks for anyone who's the least bit different. But then there's college, and then out in the real world, you will find where you fit in. You think so? Yeah, I know so. Hi. Denny, I thought you were asleep. Nah, I don't sleep in hospitals. I'm scared I'll never wake up. Can I ask you something personal? What would you like me to do? What if I say no? I'll hold my breath, which will stop my heart killing me. You're right here. You'll be charged with murder. A lifetime in prison being loved by a big old girl named Hildy. So my choice is are homicide charges or inappropriate personal questions from a patient. I know. It kind of sucks. You know what? Hold your breath. I'll take my chances with Hildy. I can do girl on girl. Oh, see, you bring up girl on girl. How can I blackmail you if you bring up girl on girl? That guy, Alex, you're with him? No, not anymore and never ever again. Good. Good? Yeah, good. It means I want to fight him for you. What makes you think I want you to fight him for me? Hello. You are in love with me. Am I? Yeah, it's not your fault. I mean, I'm well off, but I'm not into money. I'm smart, but I'm not a know-it-all. I'm funny. I'm really nice. I love animals. And I'm hot. I'm a catch. You know, if you can wrap your head around the enlarged failing heart and the dependency to IV meds. You're right. I am so in love with you. It's a shame, really, since I'm with Hildy and all. Ha ha ha. There. Five loads of laundry. I've literally washed the past out of my life. Dr. Collins, 2241. Dr. Collins, 2241. You paged me? Yeah. Hey, look at this. It's Bex's biopsy. Biopsy'd ovary? Not exactly. We're in a meeting with Bex's parents, George. Oh, and find out who the uncle's psychiatrist is if they're available to join us. Does she have cancer? No. It's not an ovary. It's a testis. A testis? Are you sure? Yes, I'm sure. Bex's hermaphrodite? Yes. What's better than our biggest, most irresistible jumbo shrimp? Choosing two of your favorites. The Bachelor in Paris two hour event, Monday 9, 8 Central only on ABC. Yang, why are you staring at my fat pregnant belly? I'm sorry. Let me get this straight. You're telling me that our daughter, my daughter, you're telling me my daughter might actually be a boy? That, how is that possible? I don't understand. I don't understand how that- Shouldn't this have been detected somehow? Externally, Bex has female genitalia. She looks like a girl, but internally she has both female and male sex organs. So what, now what are we supposed to do? I don't understand- Okay, the best news is that the lymph node tumor is benign. So physically, Bex is going to be just fine, but emotionally, psychologically, I strongly recommend therapy. She's already in therapy. I'm talking about therapy for all of you. This is not going to be easy for Bex to hear and it's not going to be an easy adjustment for you to make. What kind of big adjustment? What kind of adjustment? Many intersex people begin to identify very strongly with one sex. And it's not necessarily the sex they've been raised. She's a girl. She looks like a girl. She has always been a girl. This at least helps explain why she feels so different. The point is, biologically and emotionally speaking, she has a choice to make. A choice? My mouth feels all weird. Chewing paper will have that effect, lover. Weird hoe. Needles? No, needles and pens. Needles and pens, yeah. Yeah. Sprouting from my fingers and toes like, like, like. Lord God, give me a simile. Is he always this way? That man ate a novel. He's not exactly normal. But he got weirder the more he ate. He's like obsessed. Mr. Pasquowitz, I'm Dr. Weber. I'm going to be performing your surgery today. I poured my heart and soul into that freaking book and now it's stuck up my ass. Put that on my tombstone, Audrey. On my tombstone. Hey, Dr. Stevens. Hey, Denny. You OK? Been waiting for this a long time, you know. You know, open up my chest, take out my heart and replace it with another one. Well, not me and not another heart. A better heart. What if something goes wrong? Don't be nervous. Dr. Burke is an incredible surgeon and you're getting a new heart today. Just keep thinking about that. Yeah, OK. Denny! Preston Burke, my favorite cardiothoracic surgeon. You're only cardiothoracic surgeon, but thanks. I'll be on the phone with Dr. Bailey as the organ recovery progresses. We want to make sure that the heart stays viable, isn't damaged, while the other organs are perfused. We'll have you in the OR and if it is a go, we start the procedure before she even gets back. Is he? Yeah. I'm getting a new heart. You're getting a new heart. I'll see you. Bye. Excuse me. Mary and I were talking and we think Bex should stay... She can't handle something like this. You've saw the scars. You're not going to tell her? But this could help her. You can't not tell her who she is. Dr. O'Malley, we'll go ahead and proceed with the scheduled surgery to remove the tumor and then you can talk to your daughter in your own time. Actually, we were thinking... We thought, since you're already going to be in there, we know fixed isn't the right word, but... We were thinking that with the hormonal confusion, it might be easier on her to remove whatever boy parts she has. Keep her more of a girl. Just to be clear, you're asking me to perform sexual reassignment surgery on your daughter. Yes, without her knowing. All she said all her life is that she wants to be normal. She doesn't feel normal. Why can't we just put an end to her agony? First of all, removing her male sexual organs may not do that. In fact, it could do just the opposite. But her hormones... They can be controlled with an oral medication. We just want the best for Bex. To do surgery and alter her body permanently is... Well, I just would never do that on someone who's unaware of the procedure. And you're going to be hard pressed to find a surgeon who will. Bex will learn the truth. Someday. How do you want her to find out? Excuse me. Meredith. Hi. Hi. I had the morning off, so I thought I would come and see how my mother's doing. Oh, she's fine. She's in the sitting room. Thanks. Good memories and good spirits. Visitors really cheer her up. Visitors. Dan, I see packages coming in from Shanghai today. Yeah, Oracle, I know. 200. 80 from Portland tomorrow morning. What? It's UPS. See, now I get a detailed report of all their shipments coming in. I've already notified production and alerted sales. Well, I can't compete with that. Yeah, that's why you're being reassigned. To accounting. Oh, my stapler. Right now at Red Lobster, choose your two favorites from five of our most irresistible Jumbo Shrimp dishes. The donor is on 25 mikes of dopamine. 25 mikes? That's too much. They started him on 5 mikes of dibutamine 30 minutes prior to arrival. Are they trying to kill my heart? What is the central venous pressure now? CBP. Back around 10. Around 10? Not close to 80. And it's a mean arterial pressure? Close to 80. I can live with a CBP as low as 5, a map about 60. That heart needs to be off dibutamine. The heart needs to be off dibutamine. And tell them to get the dopamine back down to 10 mikes. And get them to get another two units of blood. Where you go, doc? Still no final word. I want you to have the healthiest heart I can find. Dr. Stevens, you'll be in there with us, right? Yeah, I'll be in there with you. Alright, people. We're going to be removing... Hey, aren't you supposed to be having a free time? Oh, I did five loads of laundry, cut my split ends, studied, cleaned out the fridge. Free time sucks. When would have been the right time to hear about your boyfriend's wife? Okay, are you mad at me or something? No, no. Sorry. Is that what no one wants to tell me? Then why are my parents acting so... Well, you just told me what's going on. What's going on is we're prepping you for surgery to remove the lymph node tumor that's compressing your... Ovary. Hey, Vex. How you doing? Mom, Dad, this is really freaking me out. No, everything's gonna be fine, Vex. It's okay, sweetie. I'm having surgery to remove a tumor that's compressing my ovary. Right, George? Dr. O'Malley? George? What, am I just supposed to lie to her? Okay, that's enough. Dr. O'Malley, please leave the room. No, wait. Tell me what's wrong with me. What is wrong with me? Vex... We learned that your tumor is... it's not compressing an ovary. Then where is it? It's... On a testes. Like a testicle? I have testicles? Yes, one, Vex. This is a tremendous amount of information for you. And I've had it my whole life. Oh, my God. But it's also important to remember that amid all the crap there are a few things really worth holding on to. Susan Jett has a family of Only on ABC. New at 11, the brutal cold is bearing down. Firefighters caught battling the elements as well as a raging fire. Colder air is setting up shop across the Northeast, but already turning mild across the Midwest. When will this air get here? And think your fingers are fast? Wait till you see these Rubik's Cube masters in action. It's all right now on News Center 5. Off the top at 11, double trouble for firefighters in Peabody. A roaring house fire and a bitter blast of cold that's forced just about everyone around Boston inside. Good evening everyone. It's one of those nights where extra blankets may come in handy. We have local live team coverage for you tonight. Sean Kelly is on the scene of that frigid fire in Peabody, but we begin with StormTrack 5's David Brown. He's tracking temperatures. All right. We've been tracking the tumble really for the last 24 hours and this is some of the coldest air we've had all season and particularly brutal after last week's real nice January thaw. We are noticing clearing skies right now with the full wolf moon in the sky. The cold air is going to stay for the next couple of days. The wind chills though, that's the real brutal story for at least the next 14 hours. Cold air stays all the way through your holiday tomorrow. Midweek warmth though will set up shop. But check out temperatures right now. Downtown Boston 12 degrees. In the hills of Worcester County we are speaking about single numbers. So right along the mass pike anywhere just to the west of downtown it is cold. Right now in Needham for example it's 9 degrees. In Newton it's 10. It feels like 17 degrees below zero in Worcester County. We do have a wind chill advisory until 8 o'clock tomorrow morning for extreme northwestern Middlesex County and all of Worcester County. Coming up in a few minutes not only will we talk about the cold air that's here for the next couple of days, but when will it warm up? You don't have to wait that long. Bob, to you. All right. We're just standing outside for a minute in this weather is tough. So you can imagine how bad it is for firefighters. In Peabody tonight crews are literally snapping the ice off their bodies at the scene of one fire. News Center 5's Shawn Kelly has our local live coverage of their efforts. Shawn? Bob, firefighters have been out here for the last several hours and they continue to fight the flames. What they're doing now is flooding the area where the flames have come up again in the eaves. This has been going on for several hours now and they're not done yet. They expect to be out here all night long, all of that water flooding through this house, which is now gutted. You can see it flowing out the front door and down the steps. This will all turn to ice because the conditions out here are freezing. Flames raced to the roof of the three-story Cottage Street home before firefighters could get there. Flames were shooting out of the side on the driveway and then it just, you could see them up on the top floor. Bold style balloon framing offered zero firewall protection between the basement and the attic. The walls are hollow going all the way up from the basement to the attic so fire readily travels right up, unimpeded, from the lowest level up to the attic. Makes it a lot tougher for you guys to do your job. Well it does, especially given the fact we're having some water issues here with the cold temperatures. Coldest temperatures reduced water pressure and iced over nozzles as well as firefighters. Icicles formed on ladders, water chilled engine doors. How much harder is lighting a fire in this kind of weather? Trying to keep your feet out of battle. Wind and smoke together made firefighters disappear and sprayed water on their bare faces. Flash overs. No, she, definitely she, come on, and very, uh.
